LEO OJA
Leo E. Oja, age 76 of Sault Ste. Marie passed away early Saturday morning, March 9, 2002 at War Memorial Hospital's Long -Term Care Unit. He was born in Rudyard on Jan. 26, 1926, the con of the late John and Anna (Kokko) Oja.
Leo attended Pickford Schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the Purple Heart after being injured in battle in Germany. He retired from the Corps of Engineers at the Soo Locks in 1983 after 38 years of service there.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, VFW Post No. 3676 and the Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors include his wife, Mary K. (Miller) Oja, two sons: Gregory and Jeffrey Oja, both of Sault Ste.. Marie and two grandchildren: Christopher and Carrie Oja. Also surviving are two sisters: Ann (George) Barr of Sault Ste. Marie and Sivia (Paul) Burdge of Randolph, N.J.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2002 at Hovie Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. Gerald Rossow officiating.
Interment will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens.
Memorials may be left to Faith Lutheran Church.
