I am searching for brothers or sisters of Knute Oien. He was born 6/24/1842 in Norway. He married Berit Lien who was born 6/4/1847. They were married in Norway, and then immigrated to Wisconson, with his wifes parents. There first son Fred was born in Vernon Co. Wis in 11/25/1875. He was my grandfather. He never new anything about the rest of his fathers family. If there was any. That is why I would like to find out if I have any other relatives.

Maybe this could help a little - if not, good luck...

Don't know if my grandmother would be one but she immigrated from norway at 16 years of age and was a charlotte oien. She did spell it differently. She was born in the late 1890's and had brothers and sisters older and younger than her. Some she did not know due to the fact they were born after she immigrated.

This Oien family came from Rauland, Telemark, Norway. Halvor Aslakson Oien married Ester (Aase Aanundsdtr) Olson in 1902 in Juneau Co, WI. They lived in Mountrail County, ND up at least until 1930 since they are on the census records there. I have ancestry information if anyone is interested. But I do not have any descendant information other than the names of the children. Besides the brothers buried in Springdale Cemetery, there were a number of sisters, but I have no idea who they might have married.

Thanks Mary for the information on the Oiens. I am stuck getting nowhere on my research. Like most Scandinavians my ancestors changed their name, and I don't know for sure if they did it in the USA or in Norway. The story goes it was Anderson at one time and then changed to Oien. Also there were some cousins to my grandfather who moved to Minot ND and they spelled there name Oen. Thanks again, Wayne O

Do you know any of their father's personal name? Or from which part, county or district, valley or .. they came?
