Thank you for writing to me. I know your parents were married in St Augustines, Grimsby on 30 December 1944 and that your father was Canadian.
Would you be good enough to let me have birth and death dates for them and similar information including marriages for their children.
You may be interested to know that St Augustines has just celebrated its Centenary. I live down south but come up to Grimsby twice a year to stay with distant cousins for family tree research and I go to worship at St Augustines because of its High Church tradition.
I hope to hear from you again. Do you live in Canada?
Best wishes,
Alan

Hi Alan,

How do you know my parents? I am 50 years old and I was born in Toronto, ON. I have a sister who is 65 years old. We both currently live in Vancouver, BC on the west coast of Canada. Mom was a war bride and came over on a boat to Halifax in 1945. She has just recently passed away on October 8th, 2011. I will give you more detail as to marriages, birth dates etc. when you can tell me more about your relationship with my parents. Did you know them or any of my Mom's family??

Regards,

Suzanne Cambridge

Dear Suzanne,
Your mother's maternal grandmother was born Harriet Jane Brumpton in 1872 and she died im March 1932 as Mrs Harriet Jane Bradley.
My mother was also a Brumpton and my grandfather was born in the city of Lincoln.
I am tracing the Brumpton line and all descendants including the female lines when names change through marriage.
A couple of years ago I did a coach tour from Banph to Vancouver and then a seven day cruise to Alaska.
Best wishes,
Alan

Harriet Jane Brumpton was your great-grandmother on your mother's side. That was her birth name and her married name was Bradley.
As I said my Brumpton tree (my mother was born Edith Brumpton) is to trace all descendants of the Brumpton name. This includes the female side where the name changes through marriage.
I hope you understand now.
Alan

Dear Suzanne,

Your mother Doreen Moira Drayton was the daughter of Ernest Cyril Drayton and his wife Florence, nee Bradley.
Florence Bradley was the daughter of Harry Bradley and his wife Harriet Jane, nee Brumpton.

On my tree ALL the Brumptons seem to be one large family.

Best wishes,
Alan

Dear Alan,

So am I to understand that my great-grandmother had a sister who had a daughter named Edith who is your mother or grandmother? So does that make us somehow related? My mother Doreen Moira Drayton married Kenneth Oie a Canadian RCAF pilot in December 1944.

She had my sister Carol Dianne May 16th, 1946. I came along almost 15 years later, October 30th 1960. My sister had two girls - Lisa Helen born September 1967 and Sandra born November 1968. My niece Sandra had a son Jarid born May 1991. Jarid would be my mother's great-grandson and interestingly enough, looks very nordic with blonde hair, blue eyes. My mother and her siblings were almost olive skinned like their father (Ernest) and I used to tease mom and say that I was sure there was some spanish in the mix. This is all very interesting. My father's side of the family is somewhat sketchy. I never knew his parents and he never knew his father.

I got married June 1998 to James Cambridge and divorced this year. We never had children.

You said you came to Vancouver once? What did you think? I have been to England several times including many trips to Lincoln and the cathedral there.

Regards,

Suzanne

Dear Suzanne,
My mother and her ancestors are on a different part of the tree to yours. If you imagine a large tree in the garden. It has lots of branches all in different directions but they are all linked together by the trunk. This is how it is with the Brumpton family tree.
Can you let me have Carol Dianne's husband's name and dates and who Sandra married. I presume that Lisa is not married.
Can you let me have your father's full name and dates please? I found the marriage from copies of the marriage register in the Library.

I shall be away from tomorrow until 25th October.

When I did the coach tour it ended at Vancouver where we stayed one night before boarding the cruise. I forget the name of the hotel but it was on one of the main streets in a very hilly part of town. We were taken round on a coach trip both before and after the cruise. I remember a park on the other side of the water and there were a lot of totem poles and there was a good view of the city.

Best wishes,
Alan
