Thanks for the info. But my cousin tells me that was a false link; It was Daniel Fall who changed his name to Falls, not Daniel O'Falls. Thus I am from a different line (The Fall line!)that turns out to go back all the way to Charles Martel, King of France.
So I'm sure we're related but apparently not through the O'Falls. But you never know, there's a lot of ancestors out there to track down yet.

Well, 7 years have gone by and I'm in a much better position to address this question.
The rumor that John Napoleon Falls Sr. had a father named Daniel O'Falls goes back a long time--probably at least to the 1940's.
John's great-grandchildren kept in contact with each other, separated as they were in Idaho,Michigan (just to speak of the descendants of three of his 8 adult children). This is the record that they shared, source unknown:
Danie O'Falls was a captain in the merchant marien, of Scotch-Irish ancestry. He was captured by the Barbary Coast pirates and held prisoner until released by USS Navy officer Stephen Decatur in 1815. His children were John, George, and Mary, born in Maine in the first decade of the 19th century. Several descendants were named after Stephen Decatur.

Actually, the 1820 census lists a Capt. Daniel Falls in Berwick, ME. At the same time a Daniel Fall of about the same age lived there too, so it is apparent that he changed his name to Falls to avoid confusion with his cousin.

Daniel Fall(s) can be traced back through the records of the Fall family in Berwick, ME, which records a Daniel Fall, born in Berwick ~1765, marrying Hannah Furber in Newington, NH on Dec 21, 1805.

Their children are listed as follows (no George or Mary):
Lusetta 5 Oct 1806
John Napoleon 4 Jan 1809
Abiona 16 June 1811
Thomas Jefferson 17 Jan 1814
Elizabeth 17 Apr 1816
Sarah Ann 14 Apr 1819
Stephen Decatur 13 Mar 1821
Martha 2 Jan 1824

This, together with census information that "John N. Falls Sr." of Anderson Co, KS had been born in Maine in the first half of 1809, is conclusive evidence that "Daniel O'Falls" should be identified as Daniel Fall, son of Stephen and Martha Fall of Berwick, ME, who died in Somersworth, NH in June 1840.

Lori,
It looks like we are fourth cousins. John Napoleon Falls lived in Challis. Comfort died when their youngest was only 14 so he lived with one or another of his children for the rest of his life. I'm away from my family history book right now but I have quite a bit on Lorenzo. His twin brother was Alonzo. Their brother Melvin was my grandmother's grandfather.
