I am looking for information on Samuel Ashton (Born: 1730) OF,,,Ireland, Margarita O'Dair (Wife, Born: 1733, Married: 1751), and Edward Ashton (Son, Dublin, Ireland), who was an Irish tailor who married in the United States, St. Augustine, FL, to Maria Hinsman on 1 Feb 1786. Edward was a Protestant, and had to convert to the Catholic religion to marry Maria (hence the word "catechumen" or studier of religion). I believe Edward was baptized at Crumpsall, Lancashire, England on Mar 20, 1745 but, that is still questionable. Edward is listed as 46-years old on the 1793 Census of New Augustine, Florida, and was also listed on the 19 December 1786 Cenusus. He is also noted as a "loyalist" from Camden County, Georgia. He was in New Augustine in the English and Spanish periods, he recieved a Spanish land grant from Govenor Coppinger. He was also married in GA to a Dorothy Higginbotham, who died shortly after arriving in New Augustine. Edward's son's name was John Adair Ashton, who married Susannah Walker (Leon County, FL) who was originally from GA. John's son was William Dominique Ashton, who married Piety Lee from New Augustine. This brings you to the 1850 St. Johns County Census, New Augustine or St. Augustine, Florida, USA. I am at a dead end at Samuel and Margarita, any help would be greatly appreciated.
