I am interested in Nicholas Ocamb. Was he born 1793? Did he marry Diana DeGroff(?)? Did he have a son Nicholas born 1845?

I would like to share some detailed Ocamb history. Nicholas Ocamb was my GG Grandfather. He was born 17 Mar 1793 in Connecticut, perhaps the city of Milford, New Haven from an 1800 census listing Anthony Ocamb as head of household. Nicholas joined the US Army at age 19 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and fought through the duration of the War of 1812 before going to Belleville, Hastings, Ontario, Canada where he married Diana Priscilla DeGroff on 17 Nov 1821. Diana was born 11 Oct 1803. They had 12 children: William, John, Louisa, Lemuel, Allen, Urias, Almira, Charles, George, Marianna, Nicholas, and Henry, my G Grandfather. Nicholas was wrongfully imprisoned for 80 days during the 1838 Revolt and filed a claim for damages, which was denied. I have a copy of that claim in his handwriting. Nicholas died 22 Aug 1876 and Diana died 30 Apr 1882, both in Ontario. Their son, Nicholas was 22 years old in Sep 1868 in Colorado Territory when he returned to his cabin after a hunting trip and was killed and scalped by Indians. Diana's grandfather, Stephen Lawrence was married to Rachel Dean. They owned land in Belleville, their land a state park today. Stephen filed an 1816 Will leaving his land to his heirs, including their daughter, Rachel and her husband John DeGroff, who was born in New York in the midst of raging battles during the Revolutionary War. They moved to Ontario to raise their children, Diana being the second of 12. I have more history to share and would love to learn what you have. Feel free to email: jasune@att.net
