William Henry (Harry) Oatway was killed on the first day at the battle of Vimy Ridge. He was born on October 10, 1889, the son of William and Louisa. They lived in Bishopton, Bristol, England. He immigrated to Canada in 1914, enlisted in Vancouver in 1915 with the Seaforth Highlanders, but is immortalized on the Cenotaph in Port Coquitlam BC as Harry Oatway. He served in what was known as the BC Regiment, 72nd Battalion, 4th Division, Canadian Army. He was researched last spring by a High School class and I will see their research hopefully tommorow. I will be attending cermonies this Remembrance day and visiting the Seaforth armouries. What I need is his English family ancestry. The Canadian Oatways I have researched all came from my immigrant Great Great Grandfather John Oatway (1815-1899). I would like to start tying together the Canadian and English Oatways, starting with our Vimy Ridge Hero. I am the Steve Oatway who is the Actor. I would like to correspond with English Oatways. Find me on the Web.
