HI Carl, some of these "posts" are quite old so I'm hoping that you are still using the same email and/or the ancestry.com website. In any event, I'm thinking that you might be the same Carl Oake that assisted Janice Fralic-Brown in circa 2000 when she was doing some research on the Oake family which originated in Change Islands, Newfoundland, of which I am also a descendant. I remember seeing your name in one of Janice's footnotes as one of her key sources at the time.
Anyways, I have been doing a lot of research on the Oakes of Change Islands who most likely came from either the Isle of Wight and/or Devon or Dorset, UK. My GG-grandfather was Thomas Oake married to Mary Hodder.
My roots are firmly based in Notre Dame Bay, where I was born, but I've been living in Ontario for most of my life as well as Ireland although I currently live in Ontario.
Hopefully this message reaches you although I will be away for the next few weeks but I'll be checking my emails.
Best regards
Reg Freake
