Hello, IM very new to all this. IM in search of my family History in Belfast.. And in hopes someone may be able to help me. As I understand they lived on Fleet Street. To put some details would be best I presume.
- Thus far I know my Grandmother, her parents, and children came to Canada from Belfast in April of 1912.. The details are a bit sketchy, so please due bare with me.. However, it is believed the men worked in the shipping yards in Belfast...and arrived in Halifax, or Quebec, Canada
Names: Great Grandmother - Annie Mary Churmside (Newcastle,Ireland) (D) Jan 21, 1954 age 68. Portland, Ontario,Canada.(Leeds)
Great Grandfather - William John O'Prey (Down County) (B) Dec 7, 1870 (D) March 1961. Portland, Ontario Canada
Great Great GrandFather - John O'Prey (Northern Ireland) Information Not yet Found.
Grandmother - Anna Mary O'Prey (the yr of birth is sketchy) It was always believed she came here at age 16 April 1912. However, documents dont add up to that..(D) Apr 9, 1999.
Anne Mary(my Grandmother) had three bothers, all of which we understand were born in Down County Northern Ireland. and listed below.
-Robert O'Prey -Samuel O'Prey -William O'Prey All 3 served overseas.. William however died after wounds during battle.
I am told there may somehow be a connection to a Henry O'Prey but That has not been confirmed.. I have also attached a file found in my grandmothers posessions before passing, that i feel is from that time/era. Should it be seen and recognized. I would very dearly like any info on it, and its such a part of our heritage.. Ty you all so dearly Rose

Re: Seeking INformation of O'Prey Family History Belfast Ireland
Hi there, am researching my husband's family tree. His great grandmother was Esther Oprey who was married to Edwin Stenton blacksmith, approx 1879 in Melbourne, Australia. He was apparently born in Doncaster, England. On birth cert for their child, Rose May, Esther Oprey gives birthplace as County Down, Ireland. Approx ? 1852/3. Witnesses on birth cert were ? W.D. Ward and Mrs Kelly ?
Any link would be great, any info appreciated. Thanks, Lois

Re: Seeking INformation of O'Prey Family History Belfast Ireland
Thanks for that info - I've never heard of it before. I will certainly do that as ancestors on mum's side were Irish. The problem is I seem to go off on tangents which take me all over the web and I get so excited, I am on the comp for hours on end forgetting the important stuff like washing, gardening etc. Oh well, the chores will always be there. Cheers, Lois

Re: Seeking INformation of O'Prey Family History Belfast Ireland
Ooo i do hear you Lois.. I started researching about 3 yrs ago. There was much scattered and incorrect information. It was so very overwhelming. Eventuallyy I stopped for a time, to regenerate, and to clarify information. I came back to it about a yr ago, but starting putting many hrs in. There is soo much, and it cab be quite overwhelming as so much is over lapped. And by times it can be frustrating as the Irish tended to use names so frequestly. It became so hard to know who was who and the real link(shall I say), how they are really connected or iff you have the right people.
It seems that with each question answered, it created 10 more. There is an old saying Lois. My Grammy used to tell me 90 % of the Irish arent in Irland. and I was blesseed enough to find a friend in ireland who helped me quite a bit.
I wish you all the best on your quest. and will help in any way i can..Who knows. possibly your husband and i threw many years of descendants may very well be related..
Lolol.. and PS yes the laundry wil always be there.
