Hi! I saw that you had some interest in my McAllen side of the family, and then I saw that you had some old postings about O'Learys some years back. My great uncle Thomas McAllen married Aileen O'Leary in Kenockee, MI where she was from....her parents were Austin and Susan....are you somehow related to McAllen's or O'Learys? Thx. Chris McAllen.

Yes we are related
As Aileen O'Leary
is kin to
Miles O'Leary Sr

I also oddly was just updating findagrave yesterday for McAllen

Austin O'Leary was brother to my great grandmother Anna O'Leary Beale

her father was James O'Leary

his father was Miles O'Leary Sr

wasn't Aileen buried out of St Thomas the Moore?

oddly even though the O'Leary were in Kenokee, Mi

many ended up in northern Oakland County

Troy, Beverly Hills, Birmingham... and never realized they had distant cousins in same parish

so who are/were your parents....

Hi Joanne, good to hear back from you. I've attached a partial screenshot of my ancestry page. I am one of seven children of Thomas Michael and Delphine Dixon McAllen. My grandfather, John Leo McAllen (married to my grandmother Frances Alpin), was a brother to Thomas James McAllen. My McAllen ancestors came from Ireland and settled in Greenwood, in St. Clair County. My Alpin ancestors came from Ireland, and settled in Emmet, in St. Clair County. Looks like they all came from Ireland to the same county, and met up with each other! :). You'll see I have photos of Thomas and Aileen's gravestones. They are buried at Holy Seplechre in Southfield, Michigan, with other McAllen family. Chris.

P.s. Just thought I'd include a photo of Thomas and Aileen at my cousin's graduation party, probably about 1960 give or take. Thomas James is at the very front of the photo, while Aileen is at the very back, right above his head. That's my mother in the pink suit next to Aileen, and my dad, Thomas "Bud", to my mom's right. The other ladies, daisy and Ella Mae, are my grandmother, Frances', sisters.

Way cool!
I am clueless where the O'leary/s are from in Ireland
they had to have left prior to 1820
as my g g grandfather
James is listed as born in Canada 1820

He had a brother Miles who after 1860 lived and then died in the Sombra area of Canada

which is directly across in MI is Marine City
and there are other O"Leary's there
they may end up being connected to ours

the O'Leary's in Flint ....I do not believe are connected

Years ago I went to the Catholic Church in Kenokee
and in Latin read all the birth....marriage records
sadly they were incomplete because of a fire

McAllen buried or arranged for burial of Austin and his wife Susan

Now Austin and his wife lived in a different part of Detroit then his sibs

his sibs lived near Tiger Stadium in Cork Town and ran a store

2 sister's never married

they are buried in OLoMtC

other's are buried in Mt Elliot....
Julia O'Leary Drissol
and
my own g grandmother
Anna O'Leary Beale William Beale and their oldest son's family Frank Beale

From what I have read the Irish area of St Clair county was settled because the US gave land grants about 1850-186?

I believe the O'Learys left Ireland before 1820....no written records exist....sigh

Beales left around 1850+_ as they had a few children born in Canada
they first lived in Port Huron

When I started doing genealogy I first worked on my German side but I kept running into my Irish sides last name in Saginaw, Flint....etc

Turned out my Grandma Helen GOODMAN Beale
wasn"t 100 % Irish

Goodman was born in England and they were BAPTIST....
not Catholic

which was a real shocker for my 26 cousins

Grandma Helen GOODMAN Beale....mother was Irish Hannon
from Windsor Canada

Holy Seplechre in Southfield, Michigan

The Beales
my grandmother and grandfather
3 of their 5 kids and spouses are buried in Holy Seplechre in Southfield, Michigan
and my dad
2 of my cousin
my mother remarried and is buried in Bushnell National Cemetery....UGH

I have their tombstones on ancestry and find a grave

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Detroit and after getting married moved to Oakland County.

Okay
my parents sent me to Marygrove for Kindergarten
because it was Catholic
geez

That's interesting.

It's so difficult to trace roots in Ireland since most records were destroyed....I'm still trying though.

My ancestors also came through Canada, and had a child or two there, then came over to St. Clair County.

Thomas and Aileen were married at Kenockee, you may already know that.

Isn't that funny, we're both born in 1951. I grew up in Detroit also. Northwest area. I went 12 years to St. Mary's of Redford, in Detroit. What school did you go to?

We first lived on the westside, then movd to eastside in 1957.
My grandparents and aunt and uncles all moved to Oakland County around the same time.
Birmingham, Beverly Hills, Farmington, one aunt lived in Livonia

I went to St Agnes, St Julianna and St David's all closed many years ago.

I noticed a Furlong, Rose ...in your snap shot

I am not sure how she is related to the Furlong who married Louise O'Leary

I've been to the cemetery in Kenokee many times and took many tombstones. Many I took were close to people I knew but I didn't know how or if they are related.

Beale had children in Ireland, Canada and Port Huron

Family lore is the granddaughter of the oldest Beale had the family bible. I am waiting for a step grandchild I found on facebook to get back to me. In the bible the it is suppose to list where in Ireland they were from.
