I will check into that, I have no info on my Frank except that he lists himself as Canadian/Irish on Census records. and that he was in prison in Washington State and then either abandoned his wife and daughter or died soon after. Thanks for the lead.
Nancy

Perhaps this Frank/Francis Nugent is a descendant of the Nugent family VERY INCORRECTLY linked to my GrGrGrandfather Francis Nugent (abt 1780 - 1835) on many Ancestry trees? He was born & married in Ireland, the family came to Ontario Canada about 1829 and they did NOT marry in St. Johns, Newfoundland. His father is William, NOT Robert Nugent. The wrong information has been copied and listed way too many times!
Jean McNamara (luvbugsgram@comcast.net)

Hello,

I have studied this branch of Nugent's, Michael (1841-1916)and Nora's family. They are cousins in my line (through Nora, who was Anora McHale Nugent, Mar 1854-???). They ended up in Richmond, Staten Island, NY, having made the move from New Brunswick to the US in about 1898. Their son Frank (Francis Xavier Nugent, b 27 Jul 1882 in St. Martins, NB) was still in Staten Island in 1942. He was a police officer.

Hope that helps.

Patrick Murphy
Chicago, IL

Hi
Thanks for the email. I have seen this Edmund Nugent before and the book makes very interesting reading. My Edmund's father was James whereas this Edmund had a father called Martin so I guess they're not the same. However I can't find any other Edmund or Martin of the correct age living in the area so maybe James is not the correct father.

Eleanor,
Dr James Nugent had three daughters. One, Eleanor Nugent, is still alive living in New Jersey. I have met her and my cousin sees her on a regular basis. Don't know if that is who you met with or if it was the Morrisons (sister Margaret's family).

I was interested if you knew why the Nugents moved to Michigan ?

Also, I saw some of your earlier posts to other people. I was interested in your comment that John Nugent volunteered at Snake Hill and the reference to a Dickinson commencement. What was John Nugent's profession ? Did he stay in Jersey City ?
I believe that my grandfather, John Kenny, had some sort of breakdown. I wonder if he committed himself to Snake Hill and that is why John Nugent had an interest in volunteering there. If my grandfather did stay there, I don't think it was for very long. But would appreciate any insight you might have.

BTW- where are you located on the family tree ? I assume you are in Michigan.

Would appreciate any insight or information you can pass along to me. Thanks, Mike Kenny

Eleanor Nugent Farley is buried at Grave E69 A&B at Holy Name Cemetary She was 76 born in Ireland and died 7/2/1920.

She is also referenced as Ellen.

Listed on 1900 census as Ellen sister-in-law widowed age 56 living with her brothers Michael Farley, Thomas Farley, and her two daughters, Margaret and Elenor who marrys James A Nugent. FHL #1240976 Also says she immigrated 1864 from Ireland. Her husband James died 1897.

Also on the marriage record for James A Nugent and Eleanor Farley, the bride's parents are listed as James and Eleanor Nugent. Family Search reference # bk5p210. Source film 1403472.

I have notes from my Dad saying her parents were Michael Nugent and Mary Fitzhenry and they had 7 children. Michael's parents were Dennis Nugent a chemist in Belfast and Nellie Thompson. Nellie lived to 101 and had 6 children. Have not been able to substantiate any of this.

I have a family tree on Ancestry if that helps. Also my email is avignonmike@yahoo.com.

Michael,

You've given me some interesting information. You may have uncovered a Nugent family with which I wasn't familiar. Do you have a death record for Margaret and Eleanor Farley's mother? I had not researched anyone in the Farley family. I have some notes on Dr. James (Uncle Jimmy) and Eleanor Farley Nugent. I met with two of their decscendents several years ago. They didn't indicate any knowledge of an extended nugent family other than the ones with which we were already familiar. Are you in contact with James and Eleanor's descendents? I haven't heard from them in a while.
Let me know if you have any information on the Eleanor Nugent who died in 1920.

Thanks!
Eleanor Lynch

Eleanor Farley the wife of James A Nugent, the superintendent of schools, was my grandmother's sister.
Margaret Farley was married to my grandfather, John Kenny.

Margaret and Eleanor's mother was also a Eleanor Nugent 1844-1920 but I can not find a connection between this Nugent branch and the John Nugent and Margaret Lynch branch.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Michael kenny

Julia Coote Nugent was born in Mullingar to James and Margaret Farrell and baptized at Christ Church Cathedral on Oct 12,1829.

Per Emmigrant she came here in 1850 on the J (?) H Shepard (still trying to verify this.

The Emigrant Test Book of 1864 states she was a widow of Pat (?), could not write and had two children John Alfred and Mary Elizabeth.

In the Dec 24 1870 census her daughter is living with other Coote relatives and is listed as age 6, her son is not listed. In the 1880 census her son, John A is living with Coote family and is listed as a nephew, her daughter is listed in the same household as a niece.

It appears from the years her children were born (via the census) and that she is listed as a widow in the 1864 Emmigrant passbook AND that her children are living with relatives in 1870 that she died between 1864 and 1870.

Still trying to work this out. Hope this helps.

Steve Hickey

Re: Alonzo Nugent from Barking in England

I think the Alonzo Nugent you are referring to was the second son of my great grandparents, Alonzo Alfred Nugent and Mary Ellingford, of Barking, Essex, England. Alonzo Alfred Nugent was a Fisherman.

James Nugent and Jane Pollard were Alonzo Alfred's parents, and I believe there was also another son called Thomas.

Jemima Perry (nee Pollard) was the sister of my g.g.grandmother, Jane Pollard, who was also the sister of Elizabeth Eliza Pollard.

Jane Pollard died at an early age, and I do believe that Jemima may have taken over the care of Alonzo Alfred. I also think that Alonzo Alfred preferred to be called "Alf or Alfred" according to census records.

As to the origin of the name Alonzo - I would dearly love to know myself. My Granddad Nugent always said it was the name of the eldest son in the family, but I cannot find any evidence of this. Even so, my Dad's was named Albert Alonzo. My Granddad also used to say that the name originated from ancestors in Spain.

Hope this may have been of use.

Mary E. Nugent Roberts 1924-2012

RADNOR: Mary Elizabeth Nugent Roberts, age 88 of Radnor, Ohio died Thursday evening, December 27, 2012 at Wexner Heritage House in Columbus, Ohio.

She was born March 25, 1924 to the late William Michael and Kathleen (Ryan) Nugent.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, William Nugent.

Mary grew up in Sioux City, Iowa, where she met her future husband Capt. Edgar Roberts while he was stationed nearby for training during World War II.
Edgar went overseas to war as a B-17 pilot, and during that time, Mary earned her first degree, a B.A. in English from Briar Cliff College.
After the war, she began her marriage to Edgar that was to last until his death more than 54 years later.
The adventure and extraordinary productivity of her marriage began as Mary moved from the city life she knew to life on the Roberts farm in Radnor, Ohio.

While raising five children and managing her part of the farm activities such as hand-making clothes and preserving farm-grown foods, Mary was able to earn her Master Degree in Guidance and Counseling from The Ohio State University and at the same time pursue her career in education that included teaching at Radnor High School and Buckeye Valley High School, administration as Assistant Director for Student Services at OSU, and guidance counseling for the Delaware City Schools and Buckeye Valley.

She also donated her professional skills to the community serving on the Buckeye Valley Board of Education, the Delaware Mental Health Board, the Advisory Committee of the Delaware City-County Joint Vocational School.

Mary's stubborn insistence upon excellence in her own life was instilled in all aspects of her children's lives. As one example, with respect to the education that she cherished, that commitment produced in her children five undergraduate degrees and four master degrees.
That same stubborn insistence had an immeasurably positive effect upon the numerous students and young people with whom she worked.
Many of those students cite Mary's influence as a significant factor in positive choices that they have made throughout their lives.

Mary is survived by her five children, Thomas Allen (Joan) Roberts, Mary (Tom) Fernald, Daniel Edgar Roberts, John Emery (Tammy) Roberts, and Joseph Nugent Roberts; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Kathleen Nugent Lowndes; and the innumerable people whose lives she improved through her life-work.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church in Delaware, Ohio .
Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Prospect, Ohio

Memorial gifts may be made to the Heinzerling Foundation, 1800 Heinzerling Dr., Columbus, OH 43223-3698

Condolences and remembrances may be expressed at www.stofcheck-ballinger.com

Published in the Marion Star on December 30, 2012 .

Hello Debra,

Hi, my name is Maureen Buckley. My great-grandfather was James Nugent, who was married to Mary Lawless. My grandfather, was Thomas Nugent, who emigrated to America in 1913.

I sent an e-mail to Martin Morris when I saw your listing. He told me that your grandmother was Alice. My mother, Mary Josephine, was your grandmother's first cousin. My mom is 93 years old, but suffers from alzheimer's disease.

If I can answer any questions for you, please e-mail me.

Best regards,

Maureen

I am not 100% if that is actually him. As I've never met him. I only know that he lived in those states due to other family members remembering bits and pieces. It is quite a bit of information, thank you very much for all of that.

Hello

I saw that you replied to my message I posted a while back. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I haven't checked it in a while.

So! Eugene was your dad. I heard a few stories about him. Like he was in the accident with Russell. He survived but lost an ear and they had to re-attach it. Thank goodness he survived. If you wanna get in touch with me, my email address is ChattyChristian@aol.com. Or if you are on facebook you can look me up there. Have a great day!

Amy

Any information on children of Christopher Nugent first found in Norfolk County, Virginia area before Somerset County, Maryland. Listed on Somerset land records on parcel "Come by Chance" 150 acres with his widow living there on June 14, 1682. Only information on children is Katharine who married William ONorton/ONaughton. Trees on ancestry list Matthew born 1724 in Brunswick County, North Carolina as his son who married Isabel MacBray which cannot be correct so also looking for information on Matthew's parentage.

There is a Felix Nugent living in Cargaclougher townland just south of Keady, Co Armagh. His farm is next to Patrick Casey in the 1864 Griffith Valuation. I have multiple connections to this Casey family and the Nugent surname shows up on other records within my family. Please reach out to me if you would like to share. Sincerely, Mike
