Surnames: Nubel
I am Caroline Nubel, daughter of Wesley, Granddaughter of Julius, Greatgranddaughter of Hermann. I am thinking that Hermann, Joseph and Edward may be brothers. The stories that I have heard have been that 3 brothers came to NY from Germany in the late 1880's. My ggfather married Johanna Boehning and moved to Islip NY. I've heard of Walter, Oscar Henry, and Adele (I may even have some pictures of them). They are the cousins of my grandfather Julius George Nubel, b 1907? d 1980. I started looking into the family years ago, but haven't gotten back to it. My grandmother had a trunk with traveling papers in it from the 1920's that seem to have been records of bringing another Nubel over. If I remember right, this Nubel came from a town called Nordholz and traveled through either Stade or Hamburg. I hope this is helpful to someone.

Hi, I was wondering if you ever came across the following names in your travels:

Edward Rudolph Nubel (1897-1969), my grandfather

His brothers:
Hermann
Arthur
Gustave
John Hugo

My grandfather had cousins Adele and Oscar and more.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,
Dawn

Dawn; if your grandfather was a cousin to Oscar, Henry, and Walter Nubel, then your great grandfather had to have been a brother to Edward Walter Nubel. Your great grandfather probably named his son, your grandfather, after his brother. (a very common practice)
Edward Walter Nubel died at a young age (33) of pnuemonia and his widow the former Adele Marie Bohmann, re-married to August W. Jergens and they had a daughter named Adele Louisa Jergens (the movie star) technically she would not be a ,by blood, cousin to your grandfater, but they probably considered themselves such, especially if they had stayed in contact with the 3 boys....
Adele Bohmann and Edward Walter Nubel were married about 1900 in New York and he died around 1910 - 1912 and is buried in Wappingers Falls, N.Y.
When Adele re-married to August, they then lived at several addresses in Brooklyn which I have if you are interested.
Adele Jergens is still alive at age 85 just north of Hollywood and we visited with her in 1998.
I have most of the Nubels from the 3 brothers down and have been in touch with several of them, however I have not tried to gather more info as the Nubel line is not part of my direct ancestry. Fritz

I've seen info on Ancestry.com for Otto Nubel, but I have yet to find a connection from him to my greatgrandfather or his brothers. I can't seem to find out who their parents were, so it's possible to we're all related back a few generations more. If I find anything, I'll be sure to let you know.
