Novtrux --> Northrop?

Posted: 16 Nov 2012 11:15AM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames: Northrop, Northrup, Novtrux
I have a 3x gr-grandmother from Germany whose last name appears in documents as both NORTHOP (or Northrup) and NOVTRUX. The data in all documents match, so I am certain it is the same lady, but I can not work out why she has 2 maiden names? Is it possible that Northrop is an Americanized version of Novtrux? Or that Novtrux somehow translates to Northrup?

Other specs for this lady are:
Maria A. Northrop (or Novtrux), b. Oct 1823 in Germany; d. Jun 1893 in Louisiana; m. Frederick Robbert (1823 Germany-1898 Louisiana); had 6 children

If anyone has any thoughts on why the name change (Novtrux appears on earlier documents, Northrop on later), I would be very grateful.
