I am looking for the parents, date of birth and place of birth for RUTH NORTHRUP/NORTHROP.
Information about this Ruth which I already have.
Ruth Northrup married John Garsey (De Jersey or Jersey) on 21 March 1784 in First Stanford Baptist Church, Bangall, Dutchess Co., NY. John Garsey/DeJersey/Jersey was born 1 December 1762 in Clinton, Dutchess Co., NY (birth recorded St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Wurtemburg, Rhinebeck, Dutchess Co., NY). A tombstone in East Beekmantown Cemetery, Beekmantown, Clinton Co., NY is inscribed “In Memory of / Mr. John JARSEY, who / died Sept. 27th 1802, / In the 40th year / of his age. / In Memory of / Ruth, who died / Sept. 13th AD. 1825, / in the 59th year / of her age. / Late widow of John JERSEY / deceased wife of / Jesse PARDY.” The widow Ruth (Northrup) Jersey had taken Jesse Pardee/Pardy as her 2nd husband.
If Ruth’s age at death as inscribed on the tombstone - 59 years - is correct, she would have been born during the period Sept. 9, 1776 – Sept. 8, 1777.
In the Records of the Crum Elbow Precinct of Dutchess Co., NY, there are entries for the period 1764-1784 mentioning Henry Jersey/Gersey, the father of John Garsey/DeJersey/Jersey. In entries for 1769 and 1771, the name “Enos Northrup” is mentioned as a neighbor of Henry Jersey in the Crum Elbow Precinct. In 1784, when he married Ruth Northrup, John Jersey, age about 22, might have been living with his father in the Crum Elbow precinct .
John and Ruth (Northrup) Jersey’s first child was born March/April 01, 1786, Hopewell, Dutchess Co., NY.
It would appear that Ruth could have been a daughter or a sister of the Enos Northrup mentioned in the Crum Elbow Precinct records, but I have no proof of such a connection.
Thanks for any leads.
