Lodusca Darthula Frances Ingle Norris

Can anyone help me find Lodusca Darthula Frances Ingle Norris? I have her parents and siblings and on back but my problem is her husband, John Bryd Norris. We were told that when he died she moved in with a brother of his and had 8 more children with her Brother in law (Norris) I can not find any info to prove that nor can I find her in the 1870,1880,1900 census. I need this info because her child George Washington Norris, is listed as the son of John Bryd Norris but John Died in 1863 and George Washington Norris was not born untill 1876. I would be Greatful for any help. Theylived in Walker county Alabama as far as I can find them.

Thanks Diana Goodwin

History of the Central Ave Baptist Church, Shelby Co, TN by Rebecca Norris Swaim

I discovered this 17 page typewritten document in the closet of my wife's great aunt Becky (born in Little Mississippi) in adjacent Franklin Texas. I discovered our own blood relationship through the Cox and Jones connections from Tippah MS and Shelby TN.

"Reb", my mother's great uncle, John Zara Norris's daughter, wrote this in 1937 chronicling an informal history of the Central Ave (aka Ridge High) Baptist Church since its July 1873 beginnings.

I've copied each page as a seperate jpg to a public web folder on Google:

http://picasaweb.google.com/scottnadel/RebeccaNorrisSwaimCen...#

Aside from marrying the Rev. Swaim, and I believe moving to Corinth Arkansas, I've found little information on Reb. Anything shared would be appreciated.

Scott Norris Nadel

Thank you for sending me the information, even though I haven't found a connections to that line, yet. I believe is possible that there may be a connection found there, someday.

The name of JOHN was prominent in my NORRIS line and found in many generations of descendants connected to NJ and NY and especially Ontario County and surrounding. This makes it harder to be sure you are tracking the correct one. Especially when a good number of these NORRIS relation, or their descendants moved to Michigan.

Thanks again for your interest!

Cynthia Stanley

I know you've been looking for John Norris for some time. I don't think I ever sent this to you. I have some very old notes that were sent me when I was trying to make a Canfield/Norris connection.

Grantee: John B. Norris, of Canandaiguw, for $150., townlot #10, east of Main St., and north of the square in Canandaigua.
Grantor: Thomas & wife Abigail Beals.
Dated 20, Oct 1815, book 24, pg 452)

Samuel Norris: Letters of Administration, Book 15, pg. 237. Probate & Admin. Oreder, dated 1825, file #99. Died intestate.
Letters of Adm. extracted as follows:
Samuel Norris, Late of Canandaigue. Letters of Admin. were granted to son John B. Norris of Canandaigua = "the deceased who died in the said town being a the time in inhabitant of the county aforesaid, on or about the thirty first of July last past." Filed September 6, 1825.

Samuel Norris, a soldier, is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery, West Ave., Canandaigua, NY (on the south side). Tombstones read: Samuel Norris, d: July 31, 1825, age 67 years.
Polly B. Norris, (wife of John B. Norris), d: Jan. 20, 1817, no age given.
Betsey G. Norris, 2nd wife of John B.), d: Oct. 29, 1827, age 41 years.

John B. Norris married Betsey Gage in Ontario, NY. (Source: Ontario County marriage records).

Hope this is useful.
Pat Hovell

Norris, Clifford b. 1851 Illinois, Parents James/Jason & Eliz. Trent

Clifford Norris was born in Illinois and married Susan McNier in 1875, Dewitt, Illinois. This is solid info.
1860 & 1870 Census have a Clifford Norris living with 2 families that do not carry the Norris name. I do not know if this is the correct individual.
Off of his death certificate I was able to get the names James H.Norris (N0 birth place) & Elizabeth Trent (birth place Illinois). Greenlawn Cemetery(Colunbus, Ohio) records have his father listed as Jason H. Norris.
If anyone has any info I would appreciate the help or tip. I have not had any luck finding anything on the parents.

Looking for the FATHER of John NORRIS, b. 1778 NJ, (wf Mary Hall) - Isaac NORRIS of Eng & Pa?, Walter or John, sons of Job?

**Important considerations...
The Chapter titled NORRISES OF NEW JERSEY, from the book NORRISES IN AMERICA, by Leonard Allison Morrison, lists TWO SONS OF JOB NORRIS: Walter (b. 1748 NJ) and John (b. 1740 NJ). Both married sisters with the maiden name of BALDWIN and lived in NJ. BOTH had sons named JOHN, that moved to Wayne County, MI.
The book lists John Norris, father of Jabez B. Norris of Brighton, NY "(?)" as son of Walter (& Miss Baldwin), but where it states the name of Jabez B, it is followed by "(?)" so showing the possibility it could be wrong.
The book also lists a John Norris of Plymouth, [Wayne Co] Michigan, son of John Norris and Susan Baldwin (brothers marrying sisters), so you have two John Norris' in Wayne County, of the same generation, that are first cousins. Dates for this John are not included. It should be considered that this John might use Jr. behind his name. There are a few references to John Norris Jr both in census and land records in Wayne County, MI.
There is only one John Norris in Wayne County, MI, in 1860 (that I've found) that is of the correct age and birthplace to be MY John Norris, husband of Mariah/Mary Hall. He was living in Nankin Twp. (where his son, John W. Norris was married and resided for a time) and married to a woman named Lois or Louis. She appears to be Lois/Louis COLE, widow of Lewis Morris, according to the genealogy of the COLE line. That genealogy notes that she moved to Nankin, MI, after the death of her first husband and that she married again to John Norris.
John W. Norris (b. 1824 Penfield, NY) lists his father, John NORRIS (b. 1778 NJ), moving from NY to Michigan in 1834, about the time of his wife Mary HALL's death and also lists his father's death date in 1862, Michigan. John NORRIS, b. 1778 NJ (husband of Lois/Louis COLE) died between 1860 and 1870, in the twp where his son married and lived for a time - Nankin. Lois/Louis (Cole) Morris Norris died in 1870, Washtenaw Co. MI.

ANYONE OUT THERE RESEARCHING THIS LINE WANT TO HELP ME SORT IT ALL OUT?

Son of John Norris and Mary Hall: John W. (Wesley?) Norris b. 1824 Penfield, NY - of Nankin, MI, and Neola, Pottawattamie, Iowa
Transcription:

History of Pottawattamie County, Iowa, by John H. Keatley,
PG 190
JOHN W. NORRIS, huckstering, Neola, was born in Penfield, Monroe Co., N. Y., September 20, 1824. His father, John Norris, was born in New Jersey May 3, 1778. When quite young, he went to New York State, where he was engaged in farming. In the spring of 1834, he moved to Michigan, where he died in 1862. Subject's mother. Mary (Hall) Norris, was born in New York State April 27, 1780, and died about 1834. She was the mother of thirteen children, of whom our subject is the youngest. Mr. Norris was a farmer for seventeen years, and then learned blacksmithing. After serving an apprenticship of three years, he started a shop of his own, in Nankin, Wayne Co., Mich., where he worked at his trade about three years, and then bought a farm, on which he lived till about 1855. He then sold his first place, and bought another near Lansing, Mich., where he remained till 1863, then went to California, remained ten months, and returned to Michigan. In 1864, he sold his property in Michigan, and, coming to Iowa, located at Council Bluffs, and worked at blacksmithing two years; then, after farming in Harrison County for three years, he came to Neola. in September, 1869, his being the first American family to settle in that place. Mr. Norris was married, in Nankin, Wayne Co., Mich., March 18, 1849, to Electa A. Greenman, born in New York State March 29, 1831, daughter, of Hiram and Henrietta (Delong) Greenman; he, born March 23, 1799, died about 1861 ; she, born in New York State September 7, 1802, died in 1842. The children of this marriage are as follows: Hattie, born January 23, 1850, died September 13, 1852; George O., December 10, 1851, died September 13, 1852; Ida J., born July 21, 1853; Eva J., November 11, 1855; and Henrietta, July 12, 1860. After first settling in Neola, Mr. Norris worked at his trade one and a half years, then farmed six years, and, in December, 1878, returned to Neola, where he has since followed huckstering. In politics, he is a Democrat.
*************************
I am tracking the descendants and ancestors of John Norris (b. 1778, NJ) and Mariah/Mary Hall (b. 1780 NY). Descendants found in NY, MI, and IO, so far. Anyone also working on this NORRIS line is welcome to share.

Thank you!

John Norris and his first wife, Mary Hall, had a son, John W. (Wesley?) Norris, b. 1824 in Penfield, NY. He moved to Nankin, MI, and married Electa Greenman there in 1849. Their two oldest children (Hattie and George) both died on 13 Sept 1852 and were buried at Chubb Cemetery in Westland, MI. John W. and Electa Norris eventually had more children and moved to Neola, Pottawattamie, Iowa.

John NORRIS, of Nankin, MI

I am researching John Norris (b. 1778 NJ), second husband of Louis (Cole) Morris Norris. I believe he was very likely the husband, first, of Mary Hall and father of 13 NORRIS children, born in NY (in and around Penfield and Phelps). Most of his children settled in NY and MI, though one son went to Iowa. He was said to have died in 1862, Michigan, presumably in Nankin, Wayne County. I don't know when or where he married Louis (Cole) Morris, though I believe it was in Michigan, probably Nankin Twp, before 1860.

Any additional information (early marriage record, land records, cemetery/tombstone, or will, etc.) would be very welcome! (*Note, there were two other John Norris' in Nankin, MI and all b. in NJ (I think) though younger than MY John Norris.)

Thank you!

norris in ohio-early 1800's

I'm looking for one Norris in particular...her name was Deborah Norris, born between 1824-26. Her place of birth might have been in Ohio counties Knox,Coshocton,or Muskingum (or another county in the vicinity). I think she may have been married to Jesse Lovell(1826-1895). My hunches are from the 1850 and 1860 (in 1860 surname misspelled as Level) Census. One of their sons William, born in 1854-55 was living in Knox Co. with a family of Norris in the 1870 Census. William died in 1928 in Licking Co. and on his death record (via his son Reed),his Mother's name was listed as "Deffie Norris" so I'm guessing this to be a nickname for Deborah. I just need confirmation that I am on the right track, if not, than I start again and look elsewhere. I am a decendent of Jesse Lovell thru another of his sons Frank 1860-1946. I looked on Frank's death record and his Mother's name wasn't listed. Thank You.

Re: John NORRIS, of Nankin, MI

A John Norris was issued on 2 Sep 1834 81.64 acres in the W 1/2 of the NW corner of section 5 township 2S range 9E. This was in the section next to Lois Morris issued on 5 Jan 1831 160 acres in the NW corner of section 8 township 2S range 9E. The area was known as Nankin then, and is now in Westland. They married before 1840 and resided on Lois' farm until John's death, when she sold the farm and went to live with her daughter Polly Harwood in Pittsfield until her death in 1870. Lois is buried in the Harwood cemetery in Pittsfield, and John is buried elsewhere (Nankin?). John appears in the 1840 Nankin census with a female and child in the house, and in the 1850 and 1860 Nankin census with Lois. In the 1870 census, Lois is living with her daughter Polly. I have not come across any estate or cemetery records for John Norris.

I found a divorce record for WRJ Norris (born 1850) in the Oregon Co, Missouri Circuit Court Records, filed in 1899 from "Josie." In 1900 he is in the census with the children without a wife. Anyone have information on Josie or other information on WRJ "Jasper" Norris? Children were Dora, Ora, Cora, and Zora. Thanks.
