Re: George Noakes and Nancy McGuire
Nancy's first born was in 1789 so she was probably past child bearing 36 years later when William was born. It appears that all of George's brothers lived to an age that would not require someone raising one of their children. Grandson??

Re: George Noakes and Nancy McGuire
That has been a question in my mind for a long time, Abraham was born Aug. 1789 (?) and Nancy & George married Sept. 3, 1789, the family moved to Lincoln County late 1788, it must have been a whirlwind courtship, another puzzling aspect is the courts took a dim view of children being born outside of marriage, but understanding getting to the county seat at a time when Indian depredations were happening made travel precarious, I don't know if was possible for them to marry first and get the license later? But back to the bible, in 1832 Nancy apparently had the family bible according to Joseph McGuire, and I understand from experience that very few people in Kentucky are into genealogy much, any ideas how to advertise to see if anyone might know about it? perhaps a reward offer?

Re: George Noakes and Nancy McGuire
Have you posted to the Lincoln Co list? It isn't very active and I haven't seen anything on Nokes there in a long time but it's worth a shot.

Re: George Noakes and Nancy McGuire
We have lots of old messages and posts on that list, I'm thinking of trying to find descendants of George and Nancy that don't read the genealogical forums but probably read the newspapers, I don't think there are many Noakes descendants still in Lincoln County but there may be people that know some and where they may be contacted, it's surely a long shot, I have contacted a lot of McGuire descendants who have no idea who their ancestors were and have little interest in them, that's why I have paid for most of the DNA tests out of my own pocket, Now I'm willing to pay for newspaper ads to dig those reclusive Noakes up, it's possible that family bible still exists somewhere.

Re: George Noakes and Nancy McGuire
I have a document that looks like a marriage for George Noakes dated august 18 1879 signed by George Noakes and Lawrence McGuire

Re: George Noakes and Nancy McGuire
I have a copy of the original marriage bond with Lawrence McGuire's identifying mark, this mark is the same as was found on a petition in Northampton County, PA in 1762, and different from the signatory mark of Lawrence McGuire, born ca. 1736, these personal signatory marks indicate that contrary to the April 1778 muster roll of the 8th VA Regt. that Lawrence McGuire didn't die at Valley Forge in 1777, I have several documents to back up that. But as to the Bond of George Noakes and Nancy McGuire, it appears that it was Lawrence McGuire (1726) that signed it, I no longer apply the designations "Sr. and Jr." to the two men named Lawrence McGuire, they may have been half siblings, that hasn't become clear yet.

Re: George Noakes and Nancy McGuire
Did George have any siblings?

Re: George Noakes and Nancy McGuire
Yes, just taking a quick look, it you are looking for Cora Noakes, wife of Benjamin Suits, do you have any information that might indicate who her parents were?
