Hello, I have been looking for the place of origin of my Noack family members and, so far, have been unsuccessful. I am wondering where all the other Noack families originated from in Germany? Has anyone been successful in tracing their families to the town and district? My Noacks settled in Minnesota and arrived 1880. Mary K. Rish

Re: German place of origin
I have just started researching some distant relatives named "Hegge". Johanna Amalie Noack married Franz Heinrich Hegge before 1851 in Germany. I have found Brandenburg, Prussia Emigration Records online that say they came from Luckau. That is in Brandenburg state, Dahme-Spreewald distict. That is just south of Berlin, Germany. I figure that most people back in that time married families near their own, so it stands to reason that some Noack familes lived in the same area.

Re: German place of origin
Mary, My grandfather, Louis Noack, came from Saxony in 1891 and settled in Minneapolis. Most Noack's appear to be Sorb (Wendish), and not true German, and come from Saxony or Brandenburg. His wife was Bertha Proebe. Steve Noack

Re: German place of origin
It is very likely that your NOACK´s are also from the Luckau area. My great greatgrandma´s family is from a village called " Langengrassau ".Her brother Hermann ( 1867 -1945 ) wrote storys about the family . Their allday life and gave a explicit impression about these time. His father Gottlob (1823 - 1902 ) told Hermann that he had to serve for 3 years militaryservice in the barracks in Erfurt. And during these 3 ys he came home only ONE time. The way was 260 km forth and 260km back ( about 520 km /320 miles ).BY FOOT !!! Erfurt is pretty far away from home. But when you go there you cross Leipzig. Maybe your ancestor was also for military service in Erfurt or Leipzig and got to know his wife there. Because usually people married someone from their village or one of the closest villages. It´s right that Leipzig was in Saxony and Luckau in Brandenburg.
In Luckau was a school called Gymnasium . There students got the certificate that permits to study at university. The school already existed in the 1800´s and 1900´s. In my list I have 3 NOACK´s . Noack, Paul Theophil *09.01.1836Lugau bei Dobrilugk Medicin Graduation 1857 Noack, Carl *10.10.1839 Dobrilugk Theologie Graduation1860 Noack, Phillip *25.05.1838 Dobrilugk Theologie Graduation1860
