      <description>Or the person recording federal census spelled it wrong. Surnames that are similiar are Nixon, Nixson, Nicholson, Nichols, Nyson, Nickson, Nison, even Newsome.  I found in the 1870 census a Nixson family and then in 1880 the same family's name was Nixon. </description>

      <description>My grandmother was Esther Nixson born c 1895-1926, from Ormskirk, Lancashire, she married William Whitesmith, born c 1895.They married in Ormskirk 1913.</description>

      <description>I have a line of ancestors in my family tree with the name NIXSON. They emerge out of Lincoln, England, in the 1770s and end up in Chesterfield, Derbyshire in the 1920s. My ggg grandather died in the 1850s and the registrar writing out his name on the death certificate initially wrote NIXON, but then had to correct it to show NIXSON, so there's no doubt the family wanted to be known as NIXSON and not NIXON. </description>

      <description>My Grandmother's maiden name was Nellie Nixson.  She married John Brumaghim in Schoharie County, New York.  She died sometime in the 1920's.</description>
