Hello Carlene. Sadly I have not touched the Coffman research in some years now and my research still stands where it left off back in 2010. I have had some hard focus on my husbands side of the family that my immediate lines have been put on the back burner for a bit. I do know that one of these days I plan on getting back on track with the research on my family. Glad to know you are still there! :-)

David, I just reread your post. Elizabeth Nipper was the mother of Geo. Rushin. She was from TN and married Stanley Silas Rushing from TN. Geo. married Matilda Tinker, they are Artie's parents. They also had Wesley Philip, b. 1881.Matilda died when Artie was 8 mos. old. Geo. married Martha Sims (Aunt Mat). they had one child, Dovie. I hope this helps. Aunt Sue

Elizabeth Nipper?

I am looking for information about the Nipper side of our family. I have heard all my life that I have Cherokee via my grandmother's line and I would like to verify that.
My Grandmother was Gussie Louise Benton (Stewart) who was daughter of Artie Stewart (abt. 1886)who was daughter of (and this is where I have hit a brick wall) Elizabeth Nipper and George Rushin (or rushen, rushing).

Apparently, Elizabeth Nipper was born in TN and is supposedly full blooded Cherokee.

I just cannot find any records of an Elizabeth Nipper marrying a George who together produced an Artie...

Can anyone else confirm or shed some more information on this?

Thanks!
I, too, am not good with these message boards, always afraid I've done something wrong, lol. Anyway, actually, this was my first husband's brother. My (ex)mother-in-law's maiden name is Payne. She was told she has a blood disorder, and her mother had bleeding problems.(Her maiden name was Swan) I know of no one else in the family that has it. My ex had two sisters with about 10 children between them, and none of them are affected that I know of. I have 3 sons and a daughter, all Nippers, and they are all clear also. I imagine it will pop up again down the line. My mother-in-law also had a brother who was not affected. Sorry your family has been so afflicted by it. It certainly is a devastating illness. Thanks for posting. Take care. Pat

Hi - just to say once again thanks for your information re your brother-in-law and for sending the message. I did get confused to whom the message was from - not used to the message board - so please excuse if I was not clear. Your brother-in-law may have kept his mother's name? My great grandmother was Sarah Ann Nippers and she had at least 2 sons who suffered from haemophilia. My mother was then the carrier and had 2 sons who suffered also. Now discovered that my sister also has it - although not as bad as my brothers and I am 94% ok - which is as far as can be tested so far. This changes with research. Thanks again - hope to hear from you in the future. Kindest regards Yvonne

Hi Thanks for that - yes they are my great grandparents - Sarah and David married in 1878- I checked once again yesterday and everything matches. They must have met in Abercarn. Frederick- my grandfather- had an elder brother - also called David who emigrated to Australia and died after an accident - I believe- so the family story goes - of excessive bleeding after chopping trees/or wood! As there were at least 2 members of the family who suffered from haemophilia then it looks as though Sarah was the carrier and there is a good chance that her father Joseph may have been a sufferer also. If I can assist you in any way with research- please do not hesitate to contact me. Where are you living? I live in swansea now but was born in Caerleon. Many, many thanks - you know how it is when you think that you are on the right road in family research but cannot tie up all of the ends. It is a shame that everyone were not alloted security numbers at birth and then we could trace via that number!!!Hope to contact again very soon kindest regards Yvonne

Hi Yvonne.
In my records Sarah Ann was born in Cardiff in 1858. Mother and father were Joseph Nippers (b. Sherston Wilts 1823) and Carolyn Rymell (b.Westport Wilts 1823). Grandparents were George Nippers (b.Foxley Wilts 1782) and Rachel Lewis (b.Sherston Wilts 1793).
In the 1800's George and Rachel's children came to Cardiff, Merthyr and Abercarn following the new work in coal, steel and tin. Previously most of the family had worked on farms around Malmebury in Wiltshire but come the industrial revolution they came to Wales and subsequently some went to Yorkshire.
Most of the family are now resident in Wales (Cardiff and Newport)and Yorkshire(Barnsley, Hemsworth and Pontefract)but there are outliers in Canada and Australia.

Hi thanks for prompt reply. Yes it is from the mother - as we were led to believe - my mother carried it to two of my brothers- one has died and the other is crippled in the leg from the blood disorder. My grandfather died also from this and it was carried to him and at least one other brother via their mother - ie Sarah Nippers i believe. This is how it normally works - female carries it and male inherit it- however a female cousin of mine should not have been a carrier and it was only when her son fell over in the school play yard that they found out that he also had inherited it - therefore it had gone sideways so to speak. Approx 10 years ago my sister and I were tested as we suffered from bleeding badly on tooth extraction and it was discovered that my sister is also a sufferer and luckily for me I'm 94% free. Hope that this has not bored you. As an aside - Richard Burton was also a suferer of a mild ford of haemophilia. Thanks again Yvonne

Yvonne, How odd that you are looking for Nippers with hemophilia. My brother-in-law died from it in 1989. His name was Jack Edward Nipper. But since this disease comes through the female line, it would be from his mother's side and not the Nipper side. These Nippers are from Tennessee, and further, from Scotland.

Dear Lawrence - Sorry about delay - problem with finding the thread for awhile. I will write again soon with all that I HAVE but for now details are. My grandfather was born in 1881 in Abercarn South Wales - his father was David Williams who married a Sarah Ann Nippers. My grandfather's name was Frederick and one of his brothers- the eldest David emigrated to Australia and died from this bleeding disorder after an accident. My grandfather also died after a fall due to internal bleeding. If my research is correct Sarah was born approx 1859 and married in 1878- her fathers name may have been Joseph and her mother's Caroline. I have been trying to obtain records from the hospitals here who have treated my family and who once stated that they have the family tree but so far without any response. I will contact you further with anymore info- once again sory for the delay kindest regards Yvonne

No, I don't have any information on Nancy Moore. Also, I don't know of any connection to Ambrose Nipper - only that I found his name on a tax record in Wilson Co. Ambrose isn't a family name, so I'm doubting there is a connection.

I went to Tenn. last summer and spent time in the Archives in Nashville as well as in Wilson Co. I didn't find anything to take me back to Williamson's parents. The records in that era are very few and don't give family information. According to Williamson's short biography - he was born in Virginia - went to Alabama with his father when 12-15 and then to Wilson Co. to marry twice and then to Illinois in 1829. I've not been able to find anything else except to verify his marriages and land ownership in Wilson Co. and his arrival in Illinois to prove the historical account.

Please keep me in mind if you find anything and I'll do likewise.

Perhaps the Nippers in the 1850 census were of the Ambrose Nipper family. p.s. thank you for responding (:

My Williamson Nipper was married in Wilson Co. in 1820 to Nancy Moore who died giving birth to twins - who also died, according to a published history in Illinois. I've found no reason to doubt that account. Williamson then married Hepsey Gibson in Wilson Co. in 1822. They had a daughter, Nancy Francis, who is my ancestor. Their oldest child was born in 1823 in TN, as were the next three including my Nancy. All children came to Illinois with their parents and I have accounted for them all in Illinois.

There was a Hudson Nipper buying and selling land in Wilson Co. in the 1820's and Williamson also bought and sold land there. I also found an Ambrose Nipper. I've found no further information on them or their families.

In the will of Richard Vaughn of Wilson Co.- 1822 - heirs mentioned are daughter Franky Nipper's children and Rhody Nipper's children. There was no further information.

I wish I could be of more help, but I don't believe my Williamson Nipper left any children or wives behind that could be connected to your Nippers.

I think this is the Williamson Nipper I have been running down. When he left Tn could he have left behind family in Wilson co. Tn that would be in the 1850 census? There were 2 Nipper families listed in that census and I am most interested in finding out more about them. I believe that my gggrand mother was Nancy M. Nipper and was one of the 2 Nancy Nippers' living in Wilson county Tn in 1850 spread out in 2 seperate households. My Nancy M Nipper and Nancy A Nipper and a child Mary Nipper moved to Dickson county Tn by the 1860 census and both were married shortly thereafter. One to Absolum Seales on July 14. 1853 the other to E C Cooley on April 20, 1855. What I don't know is what the relationship between the Nancy Nippers and young Mary was and what prompted the move to Dickson county Tn. Hoping you could shed light on this for me. Also mentioned in the wilson co tn 1850 census is a Mrs. Flanagan and wondering if you know who this might be. My ggrandfather was Daniel Webster Nipper son of Nancy A Nipper/Cooley. Does any of this info sound familiar to you? Can you help me at all even with a long shot at this point as I have hit a brick wall. Thank you in advance, Vicki

My Williamson Nipper migrated to Illinois from Wilson Co. in the fall of 1829. He is in the Illinois 1830 census.

I haven't been able to confirm who his parents were. He first married a Nancy Moore in 1820 in Wilson Co., and she died during childbirth as did the children. He then married a Hepsey Gibson in Wilson Co. in 1822.

Be sure to write back if you have other questions. Sorry, that I couldn't help more.

I am interested in any info you have regarding williamson nipper of wilson county tn. I think perhaps my nipper family somehow ties into this family. I am trying to connect the dots. I have a Nancy M Nipper, Nancy A Nipper, and a Mary Nipper that turns up in Dickson county tn in 1850. The 2 Nancy Nippers both married shortly thereafter. According to there dates of birth in the census they most likely are the Nancy Nippers and Mary Nipper of Wilson county 1840 census. If you could help I would be so appreciative and grateful. Thank you.
