JAMES was born in Doregham or Dregham, Lanarkshire abt. 1872. His parents were William and Mary (nee Percy) both born in Irvine, Ayrshire abt. 1851 & 1848 respectively. William farmed at Cragesmuir Farm, Renfrewshire.

JAMES married MARY ELLEN FOWLER Aug. 17,1906 in the Parish of Cathcart in the County of Renfrew. JAMES at this time was a farmer in Wallacetown, Dunbartonshire.
