hi, my surname is Nicolas, im also looking for people with this lastname, but it seems to be impossible, there is "Nicolas" in Nicaragua, but only a tiny bit of us, and we are the only family there with that last name. my Great Grandfather is Macario Nicolas, born in 1900, and died in 2009. My family currently lives in Canada (Ontario) it would be great to hear a reply, thanks

I don't know where to start so I'll just say my grandfather Michael Victor (born 1943) told me story of being a decendent of John Jacque Dessaline the first ruler of independent Haiti. I also know my grandfather had ties to France in the form of family some how. He enter the US from France in 1980. Maybe there is some type of link here... Hopefully this finds you, it's been almost 10 years

Wow I thought I was the only one curious about my last name. For some reason a significant amount of people from Oaxaca have that last name. Where my dads from, the majority last name is Nicolas. But according to some small research I know it's Spain, and possibly French. It would make sense considering the French invaded Puebla I believe in the 1800s. Some could have moved to other states after the defeat. Puebla is the next state north from Oaxaca.

Hey there, Vincent here, my great grand father was Antonio Nicolas from Spain. He lived for a while in Puerto Rico then moved to Merida Yucatan. Nothing else from my mom side of the family, being looking for over 12 years. For what I understand he used to work in the rail roads. Good luck in your search!!!

Hey there. It being a while but still here ... My great grand father Antonio Nicolas, another last name Dimitri. Married my grandma But whent back to Merida Yucatan, the story said but how knows sence we have found no records of it. My moms side of the family never heard from him again. My grand papa always wounder about him... About my family, have agreat mom and three wounderful sisters an a lot of nephius and nieces. I am researching my paternal's grandmother's side. Her name is Marie Nikles on her birth certificate but her natralization card has her last names as Nicolas. My grandmother grew up in an orphnage and I hear that she had a brother. I have traced their parents to Anna Haranez (B: 1910) and Stefan Nikles. I haven't been able to find any informnation. If anyone could help me out I would greatly apprechiate it.

I'm in search of those with the surname 'Nicolas' of French origin. I believe my great great grandfather was Felix Francois Nicolas. He was born in France around 1832 and, I believe, emigrated to Canada and then to the U.S. and ended up in Washington, Iowa. He died 20 May 1891 and is buried in Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. I'm basically "stuck" and don't seem to be able to get any further back in history. I also am looking for the maiden name of his wife, who was of Irish descent and named Joanna Francia. Any clues appreciated!!

It was 8 years ago when you replied to my message. Since then, I found my grandfather's entire family in Greece (many cousins, in many cities), have been to Greece 3 times, and have learned to speak Greek! It turns out the Nicolas or Nicolau was not the family name at all, but Xatzikostas is our family Greek surname.

Alfredo, my father's name is Serafin Sanchez Nicolas, Sanchez is his mothers maiden name but his father is Marcelino Nicolas. I don't know how to do a name search since in Mexico most men used thier mother's maiden name. My father tells me we originated from France. His great frather is French. Do you know how or where I can look?

Jean-Christophe was baptised on nov 10 1809 in GR. Their marriage was rehabilitated in 1809.

My paternal ancestors, Nicolas family, date back more generations native to the island of Haiti than my mother's side. My maternal ancestors (Victor family) are of French descent, from France. My maternal great (or great great) grand father was a general (or some type of military veteran) for the country of France.

I talked to my Mom, and she said her Dad's name was Joseph Camille Nicolas, and her Mom was Cleo Nicolas. Her paternal Grandfather was Alexis Nicolas. Her Dad was a banker and her Mom was a nurse.

my mother was german .ingrid habedank. she would have been louis camille nicolas first wife. they divorced when i was three. my father had a sister named jeanne. louis camille nicolas would have been about 24 years old at time of divorce.iam sure he remarried but thats all i know he was a pharmacist and loved german sheperd dogs.

Wow, this is great. I don't know who my grandparents are except my father tells me his name was Marcelino Sanchez Nicolas, his mother's name was Francisca.

I do know my grandfather was from spain and was light complicated with greenish blue eyes.

They lived in Oaxaca, Mexico.

So tell me more about my maiden name Nicolas. I love it!!

Iam a Nicolas descendant, great grand father born in Cordova Spain then moved to Yucatan in Mexico and thats how my nicolas got to Puerto Rico.

Marie: thanks for the reply. I recently came into possession of some letters of my grandmother stating that my greek Grandfather Nicolas was born in Crithia, which was Turkish territory, as Samuel Nicolas Hagga Costa in 1882. Upon arriving in the United States in 1910, my granfather's name was changed by Immigration to Samuel Nicolas. His parent's family in Turkey consisted of the following:
Father: Nicolai Hagga Costa
Mother: Zacharana Hagga Lewaria
sister: Evangalina born 1874
Brother: Gus (Augusta) born 1876
Sister: Maria born 1878
Brother: Bill born 1880
sister: Georgia born 1881
sister: Sophia born 1885

The letters go on to explain that my grandfather's parents died in 1908. The children who came over to the US included my grandfather and his brother Gus, who lived in Pennsylvania or Ohio (?).
The town of Crithia: all of the greeks there were forced to move out and the equivalent of ethnic cleansing occurred that wiped out the town, church, all records, everything. (My internet research confirmed this and said that there was a mascre there too.) My grandfather's siblings and their families went to the area of Greece that was called the province of Macedonia, around Langaza in a little town they named for the place they moved from, Crithia, which was ten hours journey north of Salonika. I have other details.

The Nicolas dit l'Allemant ancestor was said from Pensylvania. He might have married in the States before crossing to Canada. I did not find his marriage yet.

It does not say how they arrived in the Gaspé and when.

It is said that Christopher and Angélique Rigaud married in 1808 and officiated it in 1809.

Angélique Rigaud's mother, Angélique Fleury, widow of Pierre Rigaud, married Pierre Bertrand in Grande-Rivière in 1796 when her daughter was ca 16 yoa. There is a great possibility that Angélique was in Grande-Rivière when she met Christopher Nicholas.

Hello. I am looking for information on a
James Brook Nicolas. I have recently been
provided with information that my gr-grandfather,
always known to me as James Brooks Jones, was
actually born NICOLAS, but was raised by his
Jones uncle. This James served as Lieutenant
Governor of New Mexico in the late 1930's.
However, he was born in Charleston, SC. He
passed away in 1947 and is buried at the
National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

As mentioned, the Nicolas name has not been
very well known to my family. Does any of this
ring a bell with someone?

En 1783, il était officiellement déclaré déserteur des forces allemandes. On le retrouve dans Hessians ofQuebec de Johannes Helmut Merz, German auxialiary soldiers of the American revolution remaining in Canada (p.194)

Saw your message dated 2005 today. I am wondering, if in the meantime, you've had any success in tracing the ancestors of Jean Christophe Nicolas dit l'Allemand and Marie de Rigaud. I am also a descendant. My grandmother was Salomee Nicolas and her father was Isaac Nicolas.

On my grandfather's side, his mother was Veronique Joncas.

Would love to hear if you've found anything. I have been looking myself with no success.

I just started to trace my own family roots..all I have to go by is that my grandfather alfredo nicolas was born around 1887-92 in cuba..he had a sister named theresa and a brother named adolfo..one more brother was killed by a train when he was young..His fahter was French and I have been told owned suger mill?? in matanzas..
He married my grandmother Angelina Moya in managas? when he was about 25(1916??)...in 1938 they had my mother Justa Teresa Nicolas....3 yrs later he died at age arround 47-50..while working in a sugar mill (central washington)...I have check french families into cuba around 1840's and found two different men with las name nicolas?? could have been his grandfathers...any info is most greatly appreciated...Thanks
