I have family records that state Samuel, who may also be called Lemuel was son to Prescot Nickens born 1767.
My name is Saralee, and this tree is on my maternal side of Boyd/Nickens.
hope to still find you active here.

Nickens, African-American families of the Northern Neck of VA

I'm Emma Nickens (black /native) grand-daughter. Recently while researching family in Northern Neck (family is still there) I came across information about our family done by one of the cousins who has and is currently doing research on our family, all sides (black, white and native). There are still many Nickens ( the origional name of our ancestor was Richard Yoconawhaken) . So far we know the black/native side of the family goes back to 1690 and Northumberland county was incorporated in 1648. The area most of the family is in right now ( Lancaster County, VA) was establised in 1651.

My grandfather Roy, had a brother, Fred Jr, along with Robert and their sister Alberta, with their parents being Fred Sr, and Onie Vester. That sound about right?

Hello,

I am researching Parker, Penn, and Cromwell(?) lines that may have come out of Virginia early 1800's into Baltimore County, and married Berry, Bias, Wilson and eventually Chase in Maryland.
I have twin Parker boys, 25 listed in a Baltimore County certificate proving they were free people of color raised in Baltimore, dated 1847. The Parker's and the Cromwell's seemed to have favored the first name Garrison for boys for many generations. Any information would be appreciated.

-EJ
I realize this is an older post, but you seem to know a lot about NC native Americans in NC, so I thought I would give this a shot. I recently helped my older neighbor set up a family tree. She had always understood that there were Native Americans on her mothers side, but I did not find anything that we could be sure of. I know that it is sometimes "popular" to say you have Native American family, but I do have to say, they seem to have some of the physical features.

Her mother's family is Bailey, from the South Hampton area of Virginia and later in Hertford and the Roanoke Rapids area of NC.
This is what we have so far:
William Bailey b. ? married to ?
son is Elcany Bailey b. abt 1808 in Greene County NC married to Charity ? b. ?
son is Eason Ennus Bailey b. 1839 married Susan Daughtrey b.?
Daughter is Sinderella ("Indie or Cindie") b 1879 m. William Beale b. 1877

she believes that the connection is in the Bailey family, but also could be in the Beale (her father's) family

Beale family is Drewery Beale b. 1793 m. to Sara
son is Drewery William Beale b. 1827 m. Oshilla Jenkins
son is William (Billy) D. Beale b. 1849 m. Alexena Woodard
and then William Beale who married the above Sinderella
So, any ideas? Or any place you could point them to to look?
I have the tree public if you want to look, it is Dixon Family and my account (tcustis63)

thanks!

For a limited time (they don't say how limited) Family Tree DNA is offering the Y DNA 12 marker test for $39. This test is normally $99. This is the the test for males, and can show:
-if two people are related
-your suggested geographic origins
-your deep ancestral ethnic origins
This is a great time to get some more tests of various Nickens families. Results we have thus far can be seen on the Nickens DNA page at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Nickens/

This is a great opportunity to get a Y DNA test for a great price and to further our understanding of the relationships among various Nickens families.

Addressed to: jlnickthom
Do you know who are the children to Amos Nickens and Leah May Richardson? I am trying to connect some dots on my family tree. I was originally lead to believe that my great-great-grandfather is Amos Nickens. I have no DOB or DOD for him. I believe he was originally from Virginia. My great-grandmother is Anabelle Nickens, she was born in the late 1800s or early 1900s in Virginia; she died in 1981 in Queens, NY. She had three children: James Coston (1917-1997), Johnnie Coston (unknown), & Susie Coston (1920-1996). Susie is my grandmother. Now I say lead to believe because I was just told yesterday that my great-great-grandfather was Armistead Nickens (State Delegate in Virginia). Any information is much appreciated.

Hello,
My name is Gina Washington. I am trying to connect some dots for my family tree. I believe Annie Nickens or Anabelle Nickens is my great-grandmother. My father is Lester Aaron Still (1939-1988); his mother Susie Coston (1920-1996); her mother is Anabelle Nickens (also went by Barbara Hill). I believe she was born in the late 1800s or early 1900s. Not very sure. She passed on in NYC in 1981 if I remember correctly. I spoke to an uncle yesterday and he says Armistead is Anabelle's father. He mentioned Sophronia but I can't remember the connection right now since I am typing this note from my job. I would love to discuss further. Please feel free to contact me through this thread or my email: gsw2010@aol.com. Thanks!

William, I can't help. The given name "French" Nickens is common in Virginia. "French" was introduced through the Strother Family, which earlier married the colonial era French family. James French Strother was a Virginia congressman.

Hello Teresa,

My name is Solangel Childs, Reuben was my great grandfather. His descendants are scattered around but most are in the Washington DC Metro Area. His son (my great uncle) is the only living child. You can google his name Lord D Nickens for more information. On these message board threads, I see some of my cousins names on the threads. They are in Frederick MD (where great grandfather resettled from Northern Va). Hope this information helps.

By the way, what was your grandmother's name? I know he had younger siblings can't recall the sister name off hand but I think a brother's name was Armstead. Does this name ring a bell?

You can contact me at hpysun_78@yahoo.com

--Solangel Childs

thank you for the reply, I too have the thick Trogdon book But it gets confusing at times. And I have been told that some of the information in it isn't accurate. Stella Trogdon was my Grandmother Grace sister. Would love any family data on her and her family from the time she married I have been so busy looking in the past on Trogdon family that I havn't gotten any of the present done like children and grandchildren of Stella and rest of her siblings.. My father Gerald Ashford Dallas was Grace Trogdons son She married Gus Dallas and they had several children.

My great aunt, b. 1896, reported that both her grandmother and great grandmother spent their last years living with her family. She said that her gr grandmother, @ 100 years old, had been living with her grandmother's brothers. She said that their names were Reuben and Will. I have not been able to identify them with any certainty. About 20 years ago I spoke with Lord Nickens and his cousin John. Neither had any oral history which coincided with any people known to be in my family line. The siblings of Reuben Lawyer Nickens did not coinside with our line and vice versa. I have not been able to make a connection, although admittedly I have not made an in-depth effort. I'm
