Hello Maurice,

Thank you for your reply. You have given me a lot of information to work with.

I have for you a reference to Joshua Newberry of Winchester (I believe #2 on your list). Newberry operated a cabinetmaking shop on Cameron street, where according to William Greenway Russell, "he had a lathe for turning bed posts in his yard, worked by horse power. It was a large tread-wheel some twenty feet in size; the horse was led upon the wheel. When the wheel commenced to move the horse would step forward, but being hitched, could not go back."

I noticed you posted more information on Joshua Newberry on another genealogical website. You mentioned a John Darnell who became apprenticed to Newberry in 1811. I was wondering if you knew of any other workmen associated with this shop.

Prior to Darnell, I knew only a Levi Holloway, apprenticed in 1802, and Newberry's partnership with James Stackhouse around 1812-13. Stackhouse continued to work in Frederick County into the 1850s.

I also have one final question about what you posted last week. From what I understand, Joshua Newberry the cabinetmaker in Winchester died there in 1847. Do you think that the Joshua Newberry in Boone County, Missouri is the cabinetmaker's son?

Thank you once again for your help, and I look forward to hearing from you again very soon,

Nick Powers
