Obit. NEWBROUGH JOSEPH SAMUEL

NEWBROUGH JOSEPH SAMUEL Maritime Officer, businessman, and inventor, died at home in the arms of his loving wife, Lorraine Greene Newbrough and family, April 18, in La Mesa, California. He is survived also by two daughters, Elaine Carrington, and Celeste Newbrough, of Whittier and Berkeley, Ca., seven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Mr. Newbrough was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, April 30, 1909, the son of Baptist missionaries, Dr. John Wesley Newbrough and Eloise Shimmins Newbrough. Mr. Newbrough served proudly in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam as a Merchant Marines Electronics Officer. He co-founded United Services Insurance Co., served as VP of Sales, and founded Osage Petroleum Co. He registered several US patents in petroleum technology, was a member of Scientists and Inventors of America, Masonic Al Bahr Shrine Temple, S.D. Scottish Rite, several patriotic and hereditary societies, including order of the Crown of Charlemagne. His family considered him a walking encyclopedia with a wonderful sense of humor, language facility, and a great commitment to family and country. Memorial services will be held April 30, 10 a.m. at St. Martin ' s Church in La Mesa, where he was a member. Interment will be at Fort Rosecrans.
