I am looking for information on a Nesbitt that was a scout for the Army during the indian wars in the west.

His name may have been Wesley Nesbitt or Henry Nesbitt. Both were born in Pittston, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania in the mid 1840's. Family then went to Pawnee Territory, Nebraska about 1859.

I have found seven of nine brothers. Any links?

My gggrandfather, Renwick Nesbitt, son of John & Jane Nesbitt moved there in 1883.

John Nesbitt was from Ballibay. Came to Illinois in 1846.

I came across your posting, and I was wondering if it is perhaps you could help me. My great grandfather's name was Max Nesbitt, and my grandfather and his brothers always say that their dad was in the French-Indian War. Of course, Max was born in the 1880's, but I do know that his parents names were Ernest Nesbitt and Molly (O'Neill) Nesbitt. Any information you might have would be appreciative.

Hi, Becky:
Sorry, but the name Max or Ernest do not seem to show up in my line. The first record of my Nesbitt is Robert in about 1840 in Pittston, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Family legand indicates he was born in County Cork, Ireland. Early census records indicate he was born in New Jersey (about 1813). Sorry I could'nt be of more help.

My GGGgrandfather, Michael Nesbitt, and his wife Ellen arrived in New York 31 Mar 1845. Michael was born in Ballybay, Co Monaghan, Ireland. Michael and Ellen were in Reading Pennsylvania about 2 years; in Galena Illinois about 1848 and recorded in 1850 census in Hanover Illinois.
The following arrived on the same ship:
Michl Nesbit, age 28
Ellen Nesbit, age 20
John Nesbit, age 24
Jane Nesbit, age 20
Eliza Nesbitt, age 16
Margt Nesbitt, age 20
I am working on the 'assumption' that: John is a brother to Michael; either Jane or Margaret is wife to John; Eliza is a sister to Michael; Jane and Margaret could be twin sisters to Michael.

There was also a John Nesbitt family that settled in Hanover Illinois. This John was also born in Ballybay, about 20 years before my Michael.
Could we have a connection?

My Nesbitt family went to Nebraska in about 1859, from Pennsylvania. Robert, my gggrandfather was said to have been born in Ireland. Early census records, however indicate that he was born in New Jersey. Don't know anymore details.

Thanks so much for this info on John And Jane Moffett Nesbitt. I do believe there is a connection here but think it will take Irish church records to find it. Would the '1st Ballibay congregation' John mentions be Presbyterian?
Michael, Ellen and 4 other Nesbitts arrived 31 Mar 1845. I wonder if they booked passage on the next available ship after hearing John's stories of America?
I would like to correspond directly. My email is

Barb-

I have been tracing my family history and I am related to Renwick Nesbitt from my mother's side.

Renwick is my gggrandfather. His son, Jessie Sherman Nesbitt is my ggrandfather. My grandmother is Florence Anna Nesbitt (b. 3/15/10). Our line stems from Hanover, IL and currently resides in Chicago, Baltimore, and Atlanta.

I'm interested in additional information you may have regarding the Nesbitt line.

Thanks
