There is a line of McClanahan family that goes back to Laurens County before 1828. Two McClanahan, John and Samuel, (stepsons of Richard Pugh, 1796 will) both had the name Nelson given to their children. John had a Nelson McClanahan (Mexican War Lt), and Samuel of Shelby Co, AL had a son named David Nelson McClanahan. In 1850 Shelby Co, AL Census, I think Samuel says his mother-in-=law was named Nelson. The McClanahan property was in the Rabon Creek area of Laurens CO, SC.
