Alfred's marriage registration gives his father's name as S.J. Nead. It also states that Alfred was born in Michigan. I find this possible in the 1870 US census:
Corinna Township, Wright Co., Minnesota
Nead, Hiram, age 36, farmer, b. Ohio
Nead, Mary, age 26, keeping house, b. New York
Nead, Alfred, age 9, b. Michigan
In 1860, Hiram & Mary are in Woodland Township, Barry Co., Michigan:
Nead, Hiram, age 26, farmer, b. Ohio
Nead, Mary, age 17, b. NY
In 1906, I find them in Dauphin District, Manitoa:
Nead, Hiram, Head, married, age 73, b. US, emigrated 1901
Nead, Mary, Wife, age 54, b. US, emigrated 1901
In 1910, they are back in Lowell Township, Kent Co., Michigan
Nead, Hiram G., Head, age 77, married twice, 32 years this marriage, b. Ohio, father b. Germany, mother b. Ohio, farmer
Nead, Mary, Wife, age 58, married twice, 32 years this marriage, 2 children born, b. Michigan, parents b. New York
I find an entry for the marriage of HIram G. Nead in Ashland County, Wisconsin on 7 June 1888 (Volume 1, Page 152).
Alfred must have a son, Hiram Burton Nead, who enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in WWI, giving his date of birth as 27 March 1896 in Glenwood Ontario, single, Presbyterian, farmer; next of kin: Allie Nead, Father, of Coatsworth.
