Re: Patton Neace/Nease Greenup Co Ky

Patton Neace was my great grandfather, his son Ben was my grandfather. Though I have perhaps a moderate amount of info on the Neaces, it's not well organized. I will give you some of what I have handy either on file on in my head.

Patton was born about 1858 I bleive in Va or West Va. and died January 5, 1929 at Oldtown, (Greenup Co) Kentucky and is buried in Warnock Cemetery in Greenup County.

He married Lucy Jones, daughter of Isaac Jones and Mary Ann McDaniel. Gr'ma Lucy was half Indian, Cherokee according to
family info, but I don't know which parent was full blooded Indian. I've not been able to find info on that. Grandma is also buried in Warnock Cemetery and died about 1931 as i remember. In addition to children you named, there was the youngest child Walter who died at age 22 or so from TB. Sara Neace Bowling Patton's only daughter , died just a few weeks before Walter also from TB. Both are buried at Soldier Ky (think tha's in adjoining Carter Co. )All the children are dead now,but many descendants of these children live in Greenup Co Ky area, Ohio and Indiana. There is a reunion annually usually the second weekend in September at Greenbo Lake in Greenup Co.

Patton parents were Henry Neace (b. about 1815) and Nancy (nee?) Neace b. about 1816). They came from West Virginia to Ky. Patton was the younges of 11 children.

Patton and Lucy lived in Elliot Ky. at one time. My grandfather Ben is said to have been born there.

Yes Glen Dale Neece born date is for a fact 1915. Yes you are right about speculative genealogy is does not help any one!
Is the Ellis Neece you are referring to Ellis Neece born 1803 and died 1882?
Robert Neece was born 1801, right? I would like to know more about your theory that Robert McNeas might be the father of John Neece.
I have to say that I tend to feel that my Neece line came more from Scotland/Ireland because my dad was a red head and light skinned. The German line of Nehs is where people keep trying to put John N. Neece, by the way do you know what the "N" stands for in his name??
Shirley

Re: Henry NEACE-NEECE & Neece family

my answers are in Red.
HI Shirley

It is nice to hear from you. Like I had said, I have only just started with the Neece family line. I was told by some other relatives on the Turner side that my gr gr grandfather was John B. Turner and his mother was Mary Polly Neece and her parents were Henry and Ann Bush Neece. Other than than I have very little information.

A few questions I would have to start with would be...

Do you know who Mary Polly was married to? #1 Unknown Turner #2 Jacob Trout

I only have Jacob Trout as husband

Could you list her children? I only know of John. b 28 Dec 1846

I only have John B. and date you gave me, but if Mary Polly had John B. in 1846 and she was born abt 1780 she would have been 66years old when she had John. SO her birth est. has to be wrong, We need her birth date and her death date,

Do you know who Mary Polly's siblings were?

James abt 1779

Mary Polly abt 1780

John N. March 17, 1782

Virgina abt 1784

Austin 1785

Henry Jr. 1786

Jacob abt 1787

I know where John B Turner and his wife Jane Caroline Hill Turner are buried in Russell Co., Wise VA

My husband and I visited their graves a few years ago while there.

Do you have any pictures of their graves or His mother’s grave??

If you get anyother information from your genealogist PLEASE pass it on, I would GREATLY appreciate it!!!

I sure hope that I get the right answers, with the source, Hope, Hope!!

Could you list her children? I only know of John. b 28 Dec 1846

Do you know who Mary Polly's siblings were?

I know where John B Turner and his wife Jane Caroline Hill Turner are buried in Russell Co., Wise VA

My husband and I visited their graves a few years ago while there.

If you get anyother information from your genealogist PLEASE pass it on, I would GREATLY appreciate it!!!

Hope to hear from you again soon
Nancy

Yes we are on the same line, I would be Mary Polly's 4th great-grandniece. I do not know about a son John Turner or his line, but I would like to know more. Henry Neece/Neace is now my challenge, who were his parents? What country did he come from? I have a researcher working on Henry, sure hope he can find out.
Hope to hear from you.
Shirley Neece

HI Shirley
I have just started with my Neece/Neace line and saw that you have had some of the same questions that I have had.
I believe that my line has come down through Henry and Ann Bush too. They had a daughter Mary Polly (I have a picture of) she was my gr gr gr grandmother, she married a Turner, they had a son John Turner who married Jane Caroline Hill, they had a daughter Mary Ann Turner who married Nathan D Hale, they had a son Hersel Vernon Hale who married Edna Ruth Hall my grandparents.
If any of this is like yours PLEASE let me know or if you have found any other information about Henry and Ann PLEASE email me at nccarter572@yahoo.com
Thanks
Nancy

Mneece,
My line of Neece's goes back from my Dad born 1915, his father John Willard born 1891 to Harvey Willard born 1873 and I do have that documented but from there to John B. Neece born 1831 in Mo to Willson William Neece born 1805 in TN. to John N. Neece born 1872 Va. To Henry Neece born 1760 in VA.( wife Ann Bush) is not proven.
I do not know what to think at this time and there seems to be no one who can show me any facts beyond Harvey Willard.
If you can be of any help I would sure welcome proof!
The LDS researcher was not very helpful and it took many, many month"s to get his answer at that.
Shirley Neece

I have researched my Neece line and thought that it went to Henry and Ann (Bush) Neece but this last year I had a researcher from LDS do some research and they could put my John N. Neece born 1782 in the family. Wish there was more on Henry Neece born abt 1760 and where he came from!
Shirley

John was married to Mary Polly Collins b.1810-17 Va. Had the following children- William Henry, James(my line)1840, Henderson, Alexander, and Charles 1852. This family is listed Neece-1860 census of Wayne County, WV., Nease-1870 Hunnewell Dist. Greenup County, Niece- 1880 James/Sarah Thornsberry and Henderson/Polly Ann Greenup County,Ky. Hunnewell Dist. Niece,Charles 1880 Elliott County, Ky. wife Amanda Hunter, two children, and mother Polly living in the household. Apparently some time between 1870-80 John the father died. All of the children list birth place as Ky. Looking for John and Mary Polly's death date and the county in which they died. I'm also looking for them in the 1850 and 1840 Census I believe they were probably living in Ky during this time, due to the boys birth state. I would appreciate any help with this information.
I believe that you also posted Bige Neace's OBIT. He was my fathers brother. In fact Bige's wife, Rose was my mothers sister. Their children and are double first cousins to me and my brothers. We have the same exact family tree except for our parents. Bige and Dad's father was General Neace of Cockrell's Fork. He was married to Bertha Fugate before he married my grandmother. He and Bertha had 10 children, of which 7 lived. In fact, Bertha died shortly after given birth to twins. The twins died as well. General then married my grandmother, Emaline Noble. She was widowed as well. She had been married to Malachi Combs and they had 6 children of which 5 lived. When General and Emaline married, they had another 7 children. Bige was the 2nd born and Earl the 4th of General and Emaline. In all there were 23 children of which 19 lived. There is but one left, Nancy Ann Campbell of Rowdy, Kentucky.

Thx, Jeffrey Neace.

Shirley - follow the Micheal Nehs, Maria Barbara Nehs, Johann Nehs line. In German records they are Nehs. In American English records they are Neese and Nease.

Shirley, you wrote that an LDS researcher was able to put John N Neece, b. 1782 m. 1800 Hulda Ellis with the Henry Neace-Ann Bush line. Can you share what evidence the researcher used? I have tried to find something that links these John to these parents but have not been able to find anything.

Shirley,
Thank you for the details. I think I can help you with some of the documentation on your line. I need to recheck some of them, though. For example, I have your father, Glen Dale Neece, as born 08 MAR 1918, but you say it is 1915.

As to the connection of John Neece to Henry Neass and Ann Bush, you should be cautious about posting information that is speculative because too many people pick it up as fact. Persanlly, I don't thing the connection works. Here is why:

1. Families tended to travel together from one area to another. Not one family that was associated with Henry Neass in Breathitt KY appears in Jefferson Co TN. However, at lease 10 families from Jefferson Co TN are also in Lincoln Co TN and again in Lawrence County MO. (Ellis was born in Jefferson Co, moved to Lincoln Co at age 9, then moved to Missouri at age 23.)
2. People named their children after their family members. John Neece's first child was Robert Neece, then came Ellis, Sarah, William, Mary Ann, and John. All except Robert and John were named for Hulda's family. Robert was likely named for John's father.
3. A Jefferson Co tax list from 1781 has a James Ellis, Jesse Riggs, Reuben Riggs, Robert McNeas and William McNeas in the same area. The Ellis and Riggs men are Hulda Ellis's father and uncles.

My theory is that Robert McNeas is the father of John Neece, but I have not been able to find additional connections.
Many researchers say that Neece name goes back to the spelling of Nehs, but I have not found any records that show the name change.
Shirley

I am not sure if I ever responded to your question and I wish I could say that I know more about Henry Neece who was married to Ann Bush but I have no lead at this time. Many say that his back ground is Genman but I see where there was a John Neece who was on a ship to America from Scotland.
