I'm back after surgery and following up on earlier postings re. Amelia Steinbach and Charles Naatz who emigrated in the 1870's from Prussia. If you have any information to share, I'd love to hear from you:

I belive my grandfather, William F. Naatz, had a brother named Charles. He came from St. Johnsbury Vt but lived in the Adirondacks and Oneonta NY. Would appreciate anything you know.

My grandfather - Charles Naatz of Chittenango Station was the brother of William Naatz of Kirkville.. The two families were apparently not close because I only remember visiting them once or twice as a very young child & the memory is not clear. I believe the family lived in a big house right next to the RR tracks - I think upstairs.
GF Charles married in Germany & had one child, Julius. His wife died and he wrote to her sister who lived in America who also had one child, Carolina and a recently deceased husband. He came to this country and married her - Emilie Steinbach Fidell Naatz. The sisters were said to be twins.
They then had William, Emma, John, Charles and Edith before Emilie (later called Amelia) died of TB in 1892. My father was 7 years old. There is no family lore that GF Charles ever lived anywhere other than Chittenango. He came from Prussia according to the census.
I added a photo of him - he died at 85.
