I am trying to find origins of the above surname (NAAS). I know it is a place in Eire, but would like to hear from anyone with this surname, or who knows where it originates

Our Naas ancestors came from near Michelstadt, Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany, in 1887, and settled in Montgomery County, Ohio. Another Naas came from the Palatinate to Nova Scotia in 1753. So far we have not made a connection with the city in Ireland, but have not given up yet.

NAAS family in Germany, Nova Scotia and the US
I am descended from the Naas family in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany. I have been given information about the family back there. I would love to share this with you. There are some people who have done a lot of good work on this line. This is the same line that went to Nova-Scotia. You may also find it interesting that they inter-married with the Eisenhauer family who lived on the farm next door. My Naas immigrant came to the US in the early 1860's. He lived in New York until after the Civil War and then moved to San Jose, CA. If you are interested, I can give you the names of other researchers. Hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely, Rob Jenson

What a small world, Rob! Several years ago you and I were connected up via Harlan Naas of the Chicago area, and you sent me what you had on your Naas line, and I sent you what we had on our Naas line going back to the 1600s. You and my husband are related according to Harlan. Apparently you have done quite a bit more research, because Steve Naas of the Nova Scotia Naases and I have so far been unable to find a connection between our two families. I would love to hear more. My email is carno3@hotmail.com. Carolyn Naas

As far as I know, the majority of my ancestors are from the Alsace-Lorraine region of France, right on the border with Germany. In fact, before they emigrated it was spelled "Naass", and the first ancestor I have with the current spelling is the first one born in the US

I was very excited to see information on Naas' from Alsace-Lorain. I was always told that my ancestors came from there. I haven't had much luck locating mine here except in a couple censuses. They moved to Northern Ohio and the name got changed to Noss at some point after 1870 , I think. Any information anyone has on Alsace-Lorain would be greatly appreciated. My relatives were Barnhardt and Catherine Naas. I believe they were relatives as several of my gggrandfather, Frederick's children were living with the older folks in the 1870 census. After that, Barnhardt and Catherine disappeared. I have found no burial info on them and can't find Frederick, but his wife is buried with her mother and sister. If you have any info I would love to hear from you

Naas Family from Germany?
My father tells me his father, Harold Naas of Detroit, MI, and his mother, Ida (?) Geirtz Naas, from MI, were originally from Germany. Can anyone provide more information at validating this info. and searching further? (I'm still a clueless rookie!)

My Naas ancestors came from an area in Hessen Darmstadt around Michaelstadt - Stocheim. However I cannot claim credit for finding them. There is a man who has done a great amount of research. He has gathered a lot of information about all the Nass' that he could find in the U.S. as well as elsewhere. He would be about 80 years old now. I haven't been in contact with him is a few years. If you will e-mail me directly, I will give you his name and address.

Look in the LDS FamilySearch.com for Frederick Naas. It will give you a lot of information on my gggrandpa.
