We are looking at the same families. My stepfather was Joseph Lennox Naar, son of Joseph Levi Naar and Adele Miriam Sexias. His grandfather was David Naar, b. 10 Nov.1800 in St. Thomas, Danish West Indies and d. in Trenton NJ, Feb 1880.

A great online resource for these families is:

You can search the charts in Rabbi Malcom Stern, First American Jewish Families: 600 Genealogies, 1654-1988 (The Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives, 1991, Third Edition) .

Mr. Devin Nahar,
I find this most interesting. As you can see, my name is Nahar as well. I was born and raised in Suriname, a country in South America. (former colony of The Netherlands). I have read your message, and sinds you were also talking about The Netherlands, I must say that I now understand where my name comes from. Little did I know that the name origins in Spain. I was always told that it origins somewhere in the Middle East, Israel or somewhere around there.
Thank you for this information. One more thing. I do know that my grandfather used to prenounce the name also as Naar. So, if I can be so frank, we are family. I am also reading a book about jews in Suriname, and the name Nahar is also often mentioned. Most interesting this information. Once again, thank you.

I believe we may be related. I have NAAR relatives (by marriage) from Salonika, Greece. They married into my WESTERMAN family, most of whom come from Jersey City. Would love to exchange info with you.
