Kitsap's First Female Deputy Dies

Aggie D. Cline, Kitsap County's first female deputy sheriff and a lifelong South Kitsap resident, died Monday at her home. She was 84.

Born July 30, 1921, in Retsil to John and Emma (Laeder) Murphy, she graduated from South Kitsap High School. On July 11, 1964, she married Les Cline in Port Orchard.

Mrs. Cline, hired by Sheriff Fred Vetters, worked as a deputy in Port Orchard for 23 years, retiring in 1964.

After retiring, she continued her employment with the Kitsap County government for 14 years.

She was a lifelong member of the Lady Eagles in Port Orchard and enjoyed bowling, sports, knitting, sewing, crocheting and reading.

She was preceded in death by her son, Ellis Cline; her parents; an aunt; and two uncles. Surviving are her husband; a son, Larry Bertholf (Carol) of Port Orchard; a daughter, Robin Hall of Port Orchard; five grandchildren, David, Tina, Aleada, Gestiada and Jovita; and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rill's Life Tribute Center.
