I am looking for information of the Thomas Alva Munyon line. I have gone back as far as Richard LeMunyon who is the great grandfather of Thomas Alva but I can't find anything further.I don't know what Richard's wives name was or who his parents where. If anyone could help me I would appreciate it. If you are wondering where I come in to the line. My great great grandfather was Hurley Munyon the son of George W. Munyon son of Thomas Alva.

I have been working on other family lines and recently started on the Munyon's again. Florence and Ray were my great grandparents. I would love any pictures, etc. you might have. My Aunt Phyllis had all of those I knew about and she and her husband both passed away and I don't know where they all wound up. She had very old pictures of Les and Ida Munyon that I would have loved to copy, but they were in old fashioned curved glass fronted frames and they didn't want to take them apart so we could make copies. I tried to photograph them without much success. We lived far away from the rest of them, so we missed out on the family heirlooms when they were distributed. Please reply to my work email: rowec@mustangps.org as we are changing out home email.

Sincerely,
Cheryl Munyon Rowe

I am wondering if you can confirm or supplement the information that I have about this group of Munyons. I am not particularly satisfied with the documentation that I have, and there are some gaps, particularly with death information.

Charles Leslie Munyon, b: 21 Aug 1861 in Logan Co, IL.( am puzzled by the birthplace since all of his siblings were born either in Athens Co, OH or Decatur Co, IA. Perhaps he was born enroute to IA?)

Charles married Ida McConnell in Oct 1887 - where?
After his marriage to Ida, Charles, a farmer, and his family settled into a log cabin in Richland Twp, Decatur County, IA where they are found in the 1900 census. His brothers George and William owned farms in the same township. As nearly as I can tell, they were the parents of nine children - Ray, Roxie Delilah, Merle May, James O, Claude, Wert, Leona, a female born about 1903, and Loren - who was born also in 1903. Might they have been twins?

Son Claude, b: 10 Mar 1895, Grand River, Decatur Co, IA - d: 1959 in Ringgold Co, IA (is this correct?) Claude married Opal Grim who died a couple of years later; they had one child - Arletta? Charles took another wife, Pleasy Allen, whom he married in Oct 1920. They had one child - Hollis L (about whom I have no information).

My connection to this family comes from Charles Leslie's grandfather, John M Munyon and his wife, Mary Gordon, my 2nd great-aunt and daughter of George and Eleanor (White) Gordon. John and Mary were married in 1820 in Greene Co, PA and migrated to Hocking Co, OH in the mid-1830s.

My Grandfather was Ray Richard LeMunyon and he married Mildred Ruth Bricker. We all lived in Oak Harbor Ohio when I was growing up. He was a very big man. My father's grandfather was Charles Lesley Munyon (1861-1825),married to Ida May McConnell(1868-1932). My father's dad was Ray Munyon, married to Florence Ryan. I have pitures and some infor that was given to me by a family relative and my grandmother before she died. My father was Paul Eugene Munyon married to Donella May Creveling, June 8, 1945.
If you haven't had any other info this may help, if you have more, please share it with me.
Thank you, Marilyn (Munyon)Valenta

I purchased the photos mentioned in another posting and did some research, this is what I found. Mary Morgan married James Madison Munyon in Aug 1964, Vernon, Michigan. They had six children: Imogene who married Samuel Ewing, Ethel who married Charles Moran, Arthur, Emma, Howard and Lewis. James Madison Munyon was the son of Jesse Munyon and Sarah Ferguson, Jesse was the son of Thomas Jefferson Munyon. Thomas was the son of Richard LeMunyon, who was a son of Thomas LeMunyon and Hester Howard.

Imogene "Jennie" and Samuel Willard Ewing had a daughter Alice Mae who married Perry O. Deckert. Ethel and Charles Moran had a daughter Ruth.

If these people are yours let me know, I would like to get them to more direct family, otherwise, they have a good home. My LeMunyon side comes from Thomas and Hester's son Samuel.
Nancy LeMunyon Hammons

I have an original studio photograph of “Ruth (Munyon) Fehlberg”, which I would like to get back to family members. Photo was taken in about 1920, in Viroqua (Vernon Co.) WI, and Ruth looks to be about age 20 in the photo.

I found Ruth Fehlberg in the 1930 census for Viroqua, WI, as wife of Harry Fehlberg, age 31. SSDI shows she was born 6 Sep 1898. 1920 census shows her mother as Julia Munyon, a widow, and 1900 census shows Julia was mother of Ruth and wife of McClintock Munyon.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Ruth Munyon Fehlberg.

Sherry -

The Matt Munyon married to Alice Downey or Downie and who was the father of Roy Munyon was the son of Henry and Eliza (Brandenburgh) Munyon, James Madison Munyon.

There were two James Madison Munyons in Vernon Co., Wis. They are generally easy to distinguish: the other was generally called James and lived in Franklin Twp.; he was the son of Jesse and was b. in 1840. This one, 12 years younger, was generally called Madison, James Madison, or later Matt, and lived in Bergen.

I have quite a bit of info. on Matt, who was the brother of my husband's great-grandfather, Edward John/Jack/E.J.; and much on Henry and Eliza and their ancestry. If you'll reply with your e-mail address, we can "talk."

Pat

Hi Judy,
I am researching Henry Munyon, probably the eldest brother of your Thomas. They are probably the sons of the Thomas Munyon who was married to Sarah Gordon.

The best information I have found on this family is Ada Behrend, My Pioneer Families of Vernon County, Wisconsin (Laguna Hills, CA: the author, 1986); it's at FHL in Salt Lake and also on their film FHL film #1,320,594, Items 6-9. She has a lot of data on the family and lists sources, although you can't always tell which source belongs to which fact.

The info. I have gathered on your Thomas includes two wives: 1) Cynthia A. Sylbaugh, m. 1862 in Wis., died 1871 or 1872 Vernon Co, Wis., and 2) Cornelia de Lap (1853 Wis. - 1927 Ks., buried Agra, Phillips Co, Ks.; married 1872 Wis.) Everything I have on these wives is from Behrend and some census work that I did. At least the first four kids shown in the 1880 census must belong to the first wife, since they are shown with her in 1870.

My biggest question about this family is about Sarah Gordon. She seems to be, according to the secondary sources I have seen, too young to have been Henry's mother. I have not had time to pursue that question, so have done next-to-nothng on Henry's maternal ancestry so far. I'm wondering if Thomas Munyon (not so sure he was a Thomas J.?) had a first wife? Or, was Sarah a very young bride?

In any event, you probably have the right parents for your Thomas. Behrend also covers the two older Thomases.

Pat

My great-greatgrandmother is Elizabeth Ann (LeMunyon) Hackett b. 1865. I was wondering if anyone else has heard of a connection between their LeMunyon relatives and the group of Sioux Indians found east of the Mississippi who were referred to as "Blackfoot" Indians in early America. The Tutelo, Saponi and Ocaneechi tribes originally found in VA and SC were some of the tribes that fell under the collective label "Blackfoot," which is not to be confused with the Algonquin Indians who make up the Blackfeet Nation that is west of the Mississippi. Thanks- M.
