Hi
Ho Michael:
Yes, indeed there are quite a few Mungovans, here in this fair city. Are you new to the area? The sect from which my family originated, and yours for that matter, as its ALL the same....are the Mungovans from Caherrush, County
Clare, at the Western-most tip of the County. Ironically, I was just on the "phone," to Ireland, yesterday, speaking with the Mungovans that remain, still on the same land that we basically all originated from.
My backround is such that, my Great-Great-Great GrandFather was Thomas C. Mungovan, who came to the states in about 1845, at the age of 15, on a vessel owned by his Uncle....yours and my Great
Uncle five times removed. He settled first in
New Jersey, then in
Lancaster, PA,....and then moved across the country to take up permanent residence, here in the Midwest, by way of
Fort Wayne,
Indiana. He met and married, had nine children, of whom one was my Great GrandFather, William
Ellsworth Mungovan. William made his home
Fort Wayne, for a good portion of his life, but later, all of his children, including my GrandFather, Joseph moved to Chicago. William, in turn had 5 sons and two daughters, one of whom was my GrandFather, Joseph A. Mungovan Sr. who was born in 1902. He, Joseph Sr, had 6 sons, of whom my Dad was the oldest, is still, for that matter....we live in the Western suburbs, and he, Joseph Jr. my Dad, had five daughters, of whom......I'm #4.
So, there's a bit of an abbreviated run-down. I've got lots of documentation. But, I'd love to know about your Great GrandFather John, as I'm sure he may be a cousin of Thomas'. Thomas may have been an
Uncle or something, even, which would make John and our William, possibly first cousins, or at least of the same generation.
Would love to compare data, if you have it. In the interim, yes, you do have "lots," of family here. Again, would love to get in touch, if you'd like. E-mail me here, and I'll forward phone info.
Was actually just made aware yesterday, that a cousin of "ours," in Ireland, met with a very tragic and unfortunate death, on October 9, 2000. He was struck by a train while he was on a job. He was from all acounts, a wonderful person, gifted athletically, commendably talented, handsome, intelligent,an all around wonderful person....and his name, too, was Michael. I told his Father, Danny, that I'd keep him in my prayers, as well as his family. He left behind his devoted parents, and five siblings, who adore him.
His career as an athlete, his medals, and other awards for high-jump etc. for all around Ireland, are accessible via any
Mungovan search, on the Internet. God protect and keep him, and hold him close. For those shared Mungovans....keep him in your prayers....and his folks' and brothers, and two sisters, as well. Thanks....
So, best wishes Michael, and I'll look forward to speaking with you.
Fondly,
Barb
