Speculations

Peter
I realize I'm speculating wildly here, but I was wondering if your great grand father and mine could have been brothers. Do you know if your great grandfather Thomas had a brother named Michael and what became of him if he did?

Good Evening Shelby, my name is Barb Mungovan Koch, 4th daughter of 5 to Joe Joan Mungovan of Chicago. My Great-Great GrandFather was Thomas C. Mungovan. Arrived here in 1845, from County Clare. He started out on the East Coast in New Jersey, then Pennsylvania, then onto Fort Wayne, Indiana, where they settled...He his first wife, who died in chidlbirth with their ninth child. My Great GrandFather, William Ellsworth Mungovan, was Thomas C.'s eldest son. I have been trying to find more about Thomas' immediate family, but to no avail.

I have no pictures, but several other items of interest including pictures of the cemetery whee they are all buried, and obituaries detailing their lives. Also, a few articles written about them in the papers of the day.

I would be most grateful for any information that you may have...and would gladly share what I have with you. I had posted to the Boards quite a while ago, but hadn't been back in a while, to see your postings.

I look forward to your reply. I am at BMKANGELS@aol.com. Thank you so much.

Barb

How do you do, Peter. My name is Barbara Mungovan Koch, Great-Great Granddaughter to Thomas C. Mungovan of County Clare. He came over to the States on a vessel owned by his Uncle...un-named, in 1845, at the age of 15.

I have since come to learn, only recently, that his parents were indeed, Daniel Mungovan Mary Shannon Mungovan, of Kilmihil, Kilherush, COunty Clare...forgive my spelling. I have also spoken to an Eammon Mungovan, who is the son and now brother, to the most current heir to the land our forefathers lived on, in Ireland. I have several pieces of historical info, including maps from the Griffiths Valuation of 1810-1880, showing the exact land-holdings, location and numbers of acreage.

I have been trying to find out more information about Thomas' family, and have now been made aware of Daniel Mary. I believe that Daniel's Father may have been a Patrick, also referred to as "Patsy," but have been unable to find anything more concrete. I wonder if you may have any contacts, or pictures, or anything that you may be willing to share, to aid me in connecting to these brave souls who laid the groundwork for our tenure, here. I would gladly share of my resources with you.

We're going over to Ireland for the first time, in August/September for my Dad's birthday. Dad is the oldest of 6 Mungovan sons, of Joseph A. Mungovan Sr. Honor Murray Mungovan Of Chicago, Il. Joseph Senior's parents were William Ellsworth Mungovan, son of Thomas, and ALice Campion Mungovan.

I am Joseph Jr.'s Joan Mungovan's 4th daughter of 5...living in the suburbs of Chicago, West of the City. Many many wonderful stories, there. As the family historian, I would be most grateful to share and pass on whatever you may have.

I thank you for your kindness, in advance, and am eager to hear from you at your convenience. Thanks, again.

I am a Mungoven, also. Until the internet, I had never found the name listed anywhere. My father was unsure of most of the family history, but thought there were connections to the mid-west, California, and to a Thomas Mungoven who would have served in possibly the Spanish-American war and possibly attended Notre Dame University before that. I would like to know more specifically my branch of the families history and share anything I know with others.

Hi. My paternal grandma was Mary (Mungoven) Moulds. She had a brother named Thomas (Tom) and the only time that I ever saw him was about 1962 when I was 16...he was living in Ottumwa, Iowa. She also had a brother named James (Jim), a brother named Daniel (Dan), a sister named Annie, and another sister whose name I do not know. My dad is 83, and I will have to contact him to get any other info. My grandma was born in Ottumwa on January, 26, 1878 and died on September 22, 1960. She was married to my grandad in January 1905. Her dad's name was Michael Mungoven and her mom was Mary (Heslin) Mungoven. She was born on July 27, 1851. His date of birth is incomplete, and I have no other dates for them as yet. Mary Heslin was born in Connecticut, of Irish descent. Michael was Irish as well. It is my understanding that the Mungovens' came from County Clare about 1858...I could be wrong about the date, however. Perhaps it is in my dad's records in Grandma's Bible. They were Catholics, of course, so it is possible that there are records in Ireland, unless they have been destroyed in a fire, etc. Hope this helps. Please contact me if I can be of further help, or if you have other info. Thanks!

Hi, Chris,

I am researching Winnefred, born abt 1832 Ire, married a James or John Mongovan. They immigrated to Davenport Ia area because they had relatives there. Then they moved to the Kansas city area in the 1860s and had their own business, which had something to do with laying RR right of way. He was killed in the Civil War and she remarried Michael Deloughry probably from Co. Clare. Her dau, Hanora Agnes born 1862 was a Mongovan..as spelled on a marriage certificate and my husband's great grandmother. Does any of this sound familiar to you? thanks, Judy Bethel
