Dear Bob
Thanks for your message.
I can't positively identify your Michael yet.
You say he was married to Bridget Mungovan. Was Mungovan her married name or maiden name?
Do you have anymore info such as birth or marriage dates.
The Mungovan/Keenan combination did ring a bell. You may have some relations in New Zealand.
Patrick Mungovan b~1837,from Ennis, married Bridget Kelly.
They had two daughters Anne and Elizabeth ( I don't know how many children they had in total). Anne married William Johnston in 1859 in Victoria Australia.
Elizabeth married Robert Henry Keenan in 1867 in New Zealand
It is believed that Patrick Mungovan had a brother Peter Mungovan who married Ellen Grady in 1837. Perhaps your Michael is a brother of these two ?
A descendent of Eliza Mungovan and Robert Keenan who has researched these families, I believe, is :-
Mrs Mary Hollywood
9 Busby place
Palmerston North
New Zealand.
Try writing to her (snail mail) you might be lucky.
Please keep me posted. Thanks.
Chris Mungovan

Mungovan Connection

None of the stuff you mentioned matched what I have. The brother connection might be possible?

This is what I do know. I have a death certificate from Bridget Ann Mungovan, b. 22 Feb 1860, in Wheeling or Stanton Virginia or West Virgnia. She had a sister Mary Jane. She lists her father and mother as Michael and Bridget. From my relatives I got a date of July 1839 for Bridget ( unknown maiden name). Both Michael and Bridget were born in Ennis, county Claire, IR. We visited Ennis about 5 years ago and I went to the family history center. I asked if they could help. They wanted to know what street my ancestors lived on?????

After talking to them for a while I found out that while mungovan is a relatively rare name in the world, in Ennis it is a popular one.

Any futher connections with this? I uploaded my history into the internet world tree. It must take a while for them to integrate new files because it is not there yet.

Hello Barbara,
I am just beginning to search this side of my family and have very little info yet but here goes...My maternal G-Grandmother was named Winifred Mongovan (she married William J. Gallagher) and I am trying to find more info about her side of the family. When some of her children were born they were living in Blue Island Illinois.Of nine born, three lived to adulthood, Joe, Mary and Veronica (born 1893), Another son, Francis died in college. I am not sure exactly but I remember hearing that Winnifred Mongovan's sister was the Grandmother to Mayor Daley of Chicago. I also remember my Grandmother went back to visit family in Galway. If any of this strikes a cord in your mind, I would appreciate any help you could offer. Thanks verymuch and good searching to you, Pat

Peter,
My grandmother was Mary Mungovan, daughter of Michael Mungovan (born 2/3/1840)who emmigrated to America in the 1860s. My grandmother used to write to a cousin, Margaret whose husband was Patrick Cahill. They lived in the very town you mention in your message, Clonigulane, Kilmihil. I have no knowledge of who my ancestor, Michael Mungovan's parentw were and I'm hoping that perhaps you could help me find where he fits into the Mungovan family in Ireland.

Any connection?

Shelby,
Margaret Cahill or "Margo" as we called here was a cousin of my fathers her maiden name was Mungovan. Her son Michael and his family still farm the land at Clonigulane. He might be able to help you. I will contact my aunt and see if I can get some more information.
Peter
