Hi Pat, I had almost given up hope that another Mulvena researcher would check this thread, but as these genealogy things go, sooner or later, something comes through! :)
Pat, is that your email addy in the next post? or is that Frank joining in? mulvenaf(at)yahoo, just wanted to double check before I sent basically the same message twice. lol..
my email address is dahudon(at)gmail(dot)com. it would appear that ancestry has tightened up these boards, and hitting "contact" now sends me to a signing up page, instead of an email contact area.
As I said in my original message, my Mulvena research is only just starting out. But I would love to learn some more about the family of John and Mary, their daughter Bridget, and indeed all of her siblings. I am happy to share what little I have on Bridget's descendants. And I am very excited to meet you.
Debbie

Hi Frank, I hope you get this note, I see that your last post here was in 2004.
I have just started my Mulvena research, but it looks like we are after the same family. My Hubby is a descendant of Bridget Mulvana, born December 09, 1825 Drummondville. Daughter of John Mulvena (b 1785 Ireland) and Mary McQuillan. Was John the eldest son of Patrick Mulvena & Anne McAulay? I only have 2 other (found) siblings for John - Hugh b. 1798, and Rose b. 1800.
I found extensive notes on John Mulvena at http://www.blaquiere.org/ it's a fascinating insight into his life.
Perhaps this was your research, and you contributed it to the database?

Looking forward to hearing from you
Debbie
Would love any information on William and Mary in Ireland.

Hope this reaches you after such a long period of time since your post.

Regards Phil

Thank you Felix. I know very little about Daniel Mulvena except that he gave an interview to a local newpaper the Ardrossan and Saltcoates Herald when he was about 80 years old where he indicated his background. He was born c 1858 brought up in Carnlough. I have a copy of a rather striking head and shoulders photo of him
He had 2 wives recorded on his death certificate. The first was Elizabeth Lellie (she went off with his brother Felix - so the story has been told to me). His second wife was Annie McNeil.
Father was Daniel c1838
Mother Rose Magennis
He was a sailmaker and sailed in large trading ships all over the world. He and Annie lived in Ardrossan Scotland and they had 3 children.
I do not know any of his sibling names.
I would be happy to receive any information about this Mulvenna

We have a great Grandfather Daniel Mulvena. He was born in Ireland, County Antrim at Carlough c 1858. The family story was that he had at least 1 brother - Felix.
Daniel married Elizabeth Lellie in north America .. do not know where, however this marriage did not work out and Elizabeth then married his brother Felix in the America's somewhere.

I think that this cannot be a brother to your Mulvena however Daniel's Father was named William Mulvena and was probably born C1870 in Carnlough ... was he a brother to your Mulvena?
Our Daniel joined a ship at 16 years old at Larne in the north of Ireland and worked for most of his life as a sail- maker on 4 masted sailing ships - including the Lancing.
Daniel married and settled in Ayr on the west coast of Scotland opposite his home in Ireland. He had 3 children. One of them was a son, also named Daniel. Daniel jnr married and emigrated to Niagra, New York State with his wife Catherine.
They also had a son Daniel.I believe that he died in 1977 in Niagra... not sure about this.
there are also records of a William D mulvena died 2006 and William M died 1980..

I have a newspaper article about Dan the sailor man from the Ardrossan Herald. In this article he tells his own life story.
Not sure if any of this is of help to you...I have a picture of old Dan.
You can google Carnlough and get a lot of views of this sea side town

I have some information about William Knox married to a Mary McIlvenan. I believe they lived in Scotland and had 4 or 5 children, Mary Ada, Robert, James, David and possibly Matilda. I believe Mary Jane and Willliam lived in Scotland in Renfrew or Glasgow. James' birth is registered in Renfrew, Scotland. After Knox died Mary Jane Knox migrated to Australia on the ship Severn on 10/10/1863. I am a descendent of Mary's brother Patrick, the name was changed to Mulvena after they arrived in Australia.

Any information you could provide on the Knox family would be greatly appreciated.

It is unclear if Mary Jane Knox was Matilda Knox's Mother or Grandmother.

Regards,

Joe
