I am looking for the family of James Mullins who married Anna Jane Malone 07 July 1861 in Carroll County Tennessee.

He enlisted in the 7th TN CAV USA at Huntington - had a son Buel born Oct 1863, James was captured and died 24 May 1864 at Mobile, Alabama. His widow stayed in Carroll Co TN after the war until she remarried to T.C. Higdon in 1867 and moved to Benton Co TN.....then 1870s to Arkansas.

James Mullin's military records say he was born 1827 Montgomery County North Carolina.

Also in the 7th TN CAV USA were two other Mullins -
Richard or Robert Mullins -
Richard Mullins - Co A, pvt. enlisted Corinth 8/10/63, 30 something, might be son of Clem and Sarah in 1850 Henderson Co census.
In the 1890 Vet census, however, there is a Robert C Mullins who says he was in 7th Co A so the Richard maybe should have been Robert.

William R. Mullins - Co A, pvt, enlisted in Jackson on 8/18/62, age 25, 28 or 29 (all given on various documents)...born in Henderson Co TN and survived Andersonville prison. In 1890 Vet census he was in henderson Co near Life Post Office.

Any info on this James Mullins appreciated.

Yes, I have a little about him - he was a half brother to my James Mullins, they were both in the 7th TN CAV USA along with brother William and brother in law Isaac Smothers.

These were sons of Clem Mullins - who was married twice and had 8 children I guess with each wife.

Clem was born ca 1785 NC, and died in Dist. 6, Henderson Co TN....his will was probated 3 Sept 1860, it was contested and not settled untill 2 Jan 1869. In 1860 I think he had something like 1,000 acres of land....

I have not put this family all toghter, the 8 children from his second wife are mentioned in will, but not the older children.

a descendant of Robert C. said he is buried in an unmarked grave on Clem Mullins property in Henderson Co TN. Robert C. was a private in Co A, 7th TN CAV; 16 Aug 1862 - 21 Aug 1865....his second wife was from Mobile - Martha West - and she is buried at Fuller's Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery near Leoma, TN.

I wonder about the Mobile connection - that is where my James Mullins died in 24 May 1864 on the way to Andersonville prison, where his brothers were also imprisoned. They were all captured together.
James is buried there in MObile....he married Anna Jane Malone 7 July 1861 Carroll Co TN and his son James Buel Mullins was born Oct 1863 - Jane later married a Higdon from Benton Co TN and had 3 more children, in 1870s they all went to Van Buren Co Arkansas.

Would love to swap Mullins info with you....the siblings of Robert C. were - Jane, margaret, Susan, Nancy Smothers, Matthew, Richard b 1833, William R. born 5 Dec 1836.
William and Robert C were USA, Matthew and Richard were CSA.

I am a decendent of Clem Mullins and second wife Sarah Grimes. I am not sure where I got this Smothers info but I thought I would share it with you. I have some Mullins info as well if you would like it.

1. Isaac Smothers.

He married Nancy Ann Mullins, daughter of Clem Mullins & Sarah Grimes. Born 24 Feb 1842. Died 18 Oct 1892 in Carroll Co., Tn. Buried in Hampton Cemetery Carroll Co., Tn.
They had the following children:

i. Margaret Smothers; Occupation Margaret and Emma lived in Tn.
ii. William Smothers; Occupation moved to Okla.
iii. Ellen(Ellender) Smothers; Occupation Ellen lived in Tn.
iv. James Smothers; Occupation Jim moved to Texas.
v. Mary Jane Smothers; Died 1892. Buried in buried next to her parents.
2 vi. Lucien Hayes Smothers
vii. Emma Smothers; Occupation Margaret and Emma lived in Tn.
viii. Luther Smothers; Occupation Luther lived in Texas.

2. Lucien Hayes Smothers. Born 11 Dec 1876 in Carroll Co. Tn. Died 26 Jan 1965 in Memphis, Tn. Buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Memphis, Tn. Occupation Lucien moved to Memphis.

He married Martha Ellen Holley.
They had the following children:

Thank you for the Smothers info - I understand the family of Isaac Smothers lived near the family of Nancy Mullins before they married. Also that Isaac Smothers served in Civil War with one of his Mullins brother-in-laws.

I wonder, my James Mullins on his military records it says he was born 1827 in Montgomery County, North Carolina.....do you have any NC info on the family? Do you know who James Mullins mother was?

As I said, James Mullins died on way to Andersonville prison and is buried in Mobile, Alabama. His widow remarried to a Higdon and in 1870s moved to Arkansas with Buel Mullins born Oct 1863, James died 24 May 1864 so we never knew anything about him.

Do you know anything about Anna Jane Malone? She married James Mullins 07 July 1861 in Carroll County, Tennessee. Seems to have been a bunch of Union people living on the line between Carroll and Benton Co TN.....
