My husband's great grandfather, Johann Friedrich Muench arrived with Joanne Florentine Kosmahl on Feb 21, 1867 at Castle Garden, New York, sailing in the Steamer Allemannia from Hamburg, traveling under the names Jon and F.J. Minnich.
They settled in St Louis Missouri and later moved to Phelps County, some 100 miles southwest of St Louis. We have travelled to Punitz Poland (which is very close to Kolo Poland) to research the Kosmahl family history in detail. Punitz, now named Poenic, is the birthplace of Florentine. Johann Friedrich Muench, is another matter. Family stories tell us he was born in Prussia, but we do not have any proof documents for that fact. All the documents we have located tell us only that he left Berlin to travel to America. We have not yet found any of "our" Muench or Minnich family history prior to his boarding the ship.
