Let me introduce myself: I am a step-granddaughter of Mr. Martin Mrazek who was born in Banata, Romania about 1910. Martin Mrazek was a step-brother of my grandma Kristyna, the mother of my dad. As a not completely skilled chimneysweep in the age of 15 he left Romania and with the support of his uncle Mr. Mrazek, who had already been living in Canada at that time.

I know only very little about my step-grandfather’s life in Canada: He perhaps worked as a wage earner in different parts of the country and probably was never married. With my dad’s mother, i.e. his step-sister who lived in Clopodia, Romania then, he exchanged letters until the beginning of the 70s, when Kristyna died.

My dad’s family moved to the former Czechoslovakia in 1948.

My mother Libuse also very briefly exchanged letters not only with Martin Mrazek but also with other members of the Mrazek family (Eunice Mrazek who was a nurse in a Toronto hospital and with Lady Mrazek, the wife of Eduard Mrazek).

I am not very sure whether your story is connected with my story, but if so please conntact me. Thank you.

Blanka from the Czech Republic (former Czechoslovakia),
the daughter of Josef Pilat

My name is Eunice Mrazek from Dysart Saskatchewan Candada.I lived in Toronto Ontario and used to write letters to the wife of someone by the name of Joseph Pilat.I believe that I'm the same nurse that your
mother used to communicate with. I knew Martin Mrazek,he was my dad's cousin. When he immigrated to Canada he went to live with my grandpa John Mrazek.John was Martin's uncle.
My grandpa lived on a farm with his 7 children, plus Martin.
I have to think about all the jobs he had. I do know that he was a solder in World War 2.
Anyway, I am going home to Dysart Saskatchewan on June 30th.
My home town is celebrating it's 100th anniversary.
I will be seeing and visiting some of the Mrazeks that are still there.
I cannot believe that I have connected with you. I have often thought of your mother and was angry with myself for not continuing with the correspondence.
You cannot imagine how happy I am to accidentally discover your message.
Please reply when you have some time.

Dear Eunice, I was just about deleting another annoying email from my inbox … I am so happy to read it before doing so. I couldn´t believe my eyes, the letter started with your name. I have already called my dad (Josef Pilat) and mom to tell them what I´d got here and they were so surprised to hear that I have this replay from you after unbelievable six and half years. They really wish to recover any contact with you and perhaps other Mrazeks. Here is my mom´s email pilatova.libuse@seznam.cz.
Thank you,
Blanka
