Surnames: Mraz, Patterson, Leach
I am hoping to find any information I can on my familys past and locate lost relitives. All I know about my Mraz family is the few relatievs I have here in The Sacramento, California area. There is my Grandfather who married the late Wanda Fay Patterson, their three sons Anton Jr.(my father), Joseph Leroy, and David. My father married Josephine Taylor and had two children Myself and my younger brother Anton 3rd. My Uncle Joseph, married the late Pamala Leach, they had 4 children, Melanie, Tiffany, Samantha, and Amanda. My uncle David, married Lisa (last name unknown) and has his first child on the way. I know my Grandfather came to California from Wisconsin (year unknown). I know that I have family in the Wisconsin area still, but do not know their names or locations. I know that my Great Grandfather or Great-Great Grandfater came to the United States in the early 1900's via Ellis Island. He was allowed into the country becasue he had a marketable trade; he was a butcher. He came from the Slovakia region of what is now Yugoslavia. If anyone can fill in any missing piece please reply to this message or email me at Angel_Perez1234@yahoo.com

Hi! I hope we might have mutual relatives. Our Josef and Anna came to the US thru Ellis Island. Josef came about 1 year earlier than Anna. Anna came May 29,1912 on board the Carpathia. According to the ship manifest and Ellis Island records, she brought 3 sons, Josef, 12 years, Endre or Andre, 10 years, and my father-in-law Vendel, aged 8. Also stated on the records was the final destination of West Virginia. I do know that Vendel worked in Ohio. Josef supposedly went to California and I have no info yet regarding Endre/Andre. As for Josef & Anna, I still have not found them. Let me know if this helps. Good luck!

Thank you for your information. Unfortunetly I am the only one in my family looking for lost relitives, and have no one to confirm this information with. My dad and his father have not been on speaking terms for 5 years and will probably never be again. And my father does not wish to discuss his family history. So my search is going to be very hard. I am only 18, so I didn't have the pleasure of meeting any other relatives that now, unfortunetly, would have passed already. I will try to talk to my father about the information that you gave me, maybe he will help me a little bit. I will let you know what I find out. Bye for now, Deanna

I was able to get more information out of my father than I thought I would. My great-grandfather was named Josef, but he never came to california. He lived in chicago, Illinois for awhile, but than moved to Milwalkiee, Ohio. He lived the rest of his live in Milwalkiee and another town in Ohio where his sister or aunt had a bar. He died in Milwalkiee. My dad says that Josef's wife was named Francis. My dad said that unless you are from Milwalkiee than we probably are not related, If not I hope that you have a sucessful search. I hope to hear back from you soon, Deanna

Thanks for the reply. It's too bad that we can't find a common relative. My father-in-law, Vendel, did live in Ohio for a while, but it was in Canton. He worked in the shipyards and steelmills also in Ohio. We still don't have any more info regarding Endre or Josef yet. I wish you luck in your search!!

Just for your information, Slovakia was never part of Yugoslavia. There are many Mraz's in Slovenia, which was a part of Yugoslavia.

I'm wondering if you have had any further luck finding your Mraz connections? Who is your father? My grandfather Josef Mraz was from Slovakia and he did work in coal mines and steel mines and lived in Pa., Ohio, Illinois and then Wisconsin. One of his children's name was Margaret and she married Joseph Malecek in Illinois. They lived in Stickney for a long time while Joseph, Jr. and Doris, the two children, went to school. If this rings any bells and your e-mail address is still current, please contact me. Grandpa Mraz died in Illinois around Chicago in 1940 at age 66 while he lived with his eldest son, Joseph, Jr. who later moved to Sacramento, California.

My Grandfather Andrew Mraz was born 1927 to Andrew(Endre in Hungarian) Joseph Mraz & Rose Mraz. He had a younger sister Margaret and perhaps a younger brother Bob. I know that they lived in PA for a time and then moved to California. I found the same passenger list for Ellis Island stating the arrival of Anna, Josef, Endre & Vendel and am wondering if they too are my relatives. The only info I have to go by is that my great grand father Andrew Mraz arrived from Hungary supposedly on the Carpathia in 1912. I guess let me know if you have any new info about your ancestors and we can see if we have a link.

Is it possible that we are related? My grandfather was Frank John Mraz Sr from Bohemia. He came to the US in the early 1900's through Ellis Island. One brother was named Josef, a second brother was Leopold. There were two other brothers. There plan was to meet in the coal mines of PA. They never meet again. One brother, a goldsmith, remained behind due yo an eye injury. A sister, Cecilia, pass away at an early age from Lupus. Ring any bells?
