Hi Dick, Great to hear from other researchers of the Mraz name. I have not been fortunate enough to find a village of origin. (I am beginning to think it's Moravia instead of Bohemia, too.)I do know that my g-g-gfather, Alois, was born in 1851 and married Margareta (Sedlak) in abt. 1880. They immigrated with their three children in 1880 as well. I have been unable to find any ship info on them, but I do have some naturalization info. They came thru the Port of New York and eventually made their way to Lavaca County, Texas, by 1883. They had a total of 9 children. I am still searching for more info. I do not think our lines are related but would still like to keep your info in my records just in case. I have more info on my line, if you are interested please contact me directly at mrazoompa@aol.com.

Hi Mary Ann Watercott:
You were asking for information on Kathararina Hruby . My greatgranfather Wenzel Mraz was born in the year 1840,Sept.27,in the village of Lidnice,Providence of Budejovic Austria. This is what we call Moravia Czechslovakia. My great-great grandfather was a overseer on one of the estate there . K. Hruby was a servent in the house and my great grandfather fell in love with her .She left for the U.S and he follow a short time later. They met in Mlwaukee and were married .They wer one of the first settler in Alogma Wis and had a rough time the first year.
Have two papers on her one said she was from Germany. one from Velice ,in Moravia .She was a farm girl and worked for the groom parents .Had six children ,four lived .Died May 15 ,1916 at 79 years old .In Algoma ,Wis
Hope this helps .I wonder if they are related .Please let me know if this has helped.
Sorry to take so long to answer but I have had company for all this time .I have lots of detail from the early time as settlers. She was a couple of years different in age from her husband I heard (older) by two years? Dick Mraz (mrazdick@aol.com

Dick,
The Budjovice Austria is now part of Slovakia. My grandmother, Elizabeth Mraz came from Jastrabie pre Michalovce Slovkia. She came to the US in 1912. I have been to the village to visit and there are many families there with the surname Mraz. Mraz means "frost" in almost all eastern european languages.

It is told my grandfather, Joseph Mraz wandered into the village of Spisska Nova Ves Slovakia and ultimately married my grandmother, Anna Brosko in Iliasovce. Anna was born 25/10/1880. Was religious woman. Joseph was born 23/4/1874. Married in 2/1895. Came to US approx in 1898. Brought infant son, Joseph, Jr. with them. Another child died before coming to US. Andrew born 23/12/1902; Anna born 4/5/1903 in Youngstown, Ohio. Moved to McKeesport, PA in 1904; Greesburg, PA in 1905; Gilchrist, IL in 1906 where Margaret was born. Velma was born in Farmington, IL in 1909; John, Emma and Josephine born in West Frankfort, IL. Joseph worked in coal mines and moved where the mines were best, wending his way to Wisconsin. Bought land April 21, 1917 in Lugerville, a booming lumber industry going in Phillips, WI located in Price County from Bohemian American Land and Loan Company. Built house and barn and family joined him in April of 1919. Never spoke of family. Youngest son John Mraz lives in Las Vegas, Nevada and Velma (Brendel) age 92 lives in Phillips, WI. I am granddaughter of Joseph Mraz and would like to learn more about Mraz relatives, if any, are still alive - related to Joseph Mraz, Sr.
We really know nothing about Mraz side of the family before Grandpa arrived in the village of Spisska Nova Ves. He was a hard worker, built things readily, pews for the church services held in their home in Il. Built home and barn, built furniture, Anna Brosko was a wonderful manager, and she kept the family going according to my mother, Velma Brendel Mraz. Any help out there?

Hi:
My grandfather Joseph Mraz and grandmother Anna came to USA early 1900's I believe. I recently learned they were married in Spisska Nova Ves, Slovakia. Joseph, Sr. was born in Novoveska Huta, which is 6 km south of Spisska Nove Ves. As I read information on this message board under Mraz surname I realize there were Mraz families in Ohio and PA. I am wondering if there is a connection since it seems as though immigrants usually gravitated to places (cities) where they knew someone. Ohio and PA have been mentioned in my search by other Mraz families. Do you know anything about where your Mraz family's roots were?
