ALLIANCE, Ohio - Nicholas J. “Nick” Mravich died on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, at 8:30 p.m. at Mercy Medical Center, Canton, Ohio.

He was born March 18, 1942, in Youngstown, Ohio (Mahoning County) to Andrew Mravich and Margaret (Gulas) Mravich.

He lived in Campbell, Ohio and was a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, where he was very proud to have been the President of his senior class.

He attended Youngstown State University (then Youngstown College) and graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. degree in Chemistry.
He was elected to the Gould Society at YSU, which is equivalent to Phi Beta Kappa.

He was awarded a National Institute of Health Fellowship at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. for research in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
He joined the former Babcock and Wilcox Company, Research & Development Division (McDermott Technologies Inc.) in Alliance.
He held many positions including manager of the Chemistry Section and consulting engineer.

He helped to obtain many important contracts to study water treatment, chemical monitors, water purification, and chemical cleaning of nuclear steam generators.

He retired after 31 years of service.
He then joined Detora Analytical Inc. as technical director of sales and service and retired after 10 years of service. At Detora, he was instrumental at obtaining a contract to build and study an online x-ray fluorescent instrument to measure trace levels of metals in water and wastewater. He was a life member of the BPO Elks and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
He was a past member of the American Chemical Society, American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), and National Association of Corrosion Engineers.
While on ASME, he served on the Codes Committee for over 30 years. He was sub-chairman of the committee to sample water and steam and a member of the committee on the Ion Exchange Equipment. While on the ASTMD-19 Committee on Water, he served as chairman of the sub-committee, responsible for methods for sampling water and steam and on-line chemical monitors. He received the ASTM Outstanding Service Award in 1993.
He was very proud to have been an Alliance Jaycee.
He served as secretary, vice-president, president and state director and chairman of the board. While he served as president in 1972 and 1973, the Alliance Chapter was named the Number One Chapter in the state of Ohio, as well as the Number One Chapter in the United States out of 325,000 Jaycees. They were so honored because of their many worthwhile community projects, leadership training programs for members, and the support given by the Alliance Community.

Nick enjoyed being with his family, gardening, fishing and his dogs and cats. He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and Mount Union Women’s Basketball.
He was a member of the Regina Coeli Catholic

He is survived by his beloved wife and friend, Marsha (Wells) Mravich.

He is also survived by son Nicholas Mravich Jr. of Canton; son Mark Mravich of Dublin, Ohio; daughter Tracy (Andy) Ferrett of Hartville; and stepdaughter, Wilma Dean Roberts of Canton. He leaves one granddaughter, Anna Maria Ferrett of Hartville, Ohio; two nephews, Joseph Ziak of Connecticut and Robert (Harriet) Ziak of Youngstown; one niece, Michele (Merv) Carvell of Youngstown; and four great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Eleanor Ziak; and brother-in-law Joseph Ziak Sr.
The family will receive friends at the Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at the Regina Coeli Catholic Church on Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, at noon.
Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Youngstown State University.
Arrangements are by the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home.

ELEANOR FRANCIS (MRAVICH) ZIAK CAMPBELL – Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. John Catholic Church for Eleanor Francis Ziak, 85, who passed away Saturday.

Eleanor was born July 29, 1927, in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of Andrew and Margaret Gulas Mravich.

She was a 1945 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and was their very first homecoming queen.
She later attended and graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1948, where she went on to serve as a Surgical R.N. during her entire nursing career at St. Elizabeth Hospital until her retirement in 1991.
She was a life member of the St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. Eleanor was a member of both St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church and Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. John Catholic Church.
. She loved going out to dinner. She enjoyed baking and cooking for her family, especially her stuffed cabbage.
Eleanor had a great fondness for music and dancing.
Her husband, Joseph G. Ziak, whom she married Aug. 6, 1949, passed away Dec. 1, 1973. Eleanor leaves to cherish her memories, her sons, Joseph Ziak, and his companion, Carol Pope of Hamden, Conn. and Bob (Harriet) Ziak of Youngstown; her daughter, Michele (Merv) Carvell of Poland; her brother, Nicholas (Marsha) Mravich of Alliance; grandchildren Bryan and Linda Ziak, Nicole and Jason Hagerty, Todd and Annie Ziak, Erin and Paul Gerhardstein, Craig Ziak and Christopher Carvell; great-grandchildren, who were referred to as “Bubba’s Angels,” Colin and Noah Ziak, Hannah, J.J., and Jacob Hagerty, Mollie Gerhardstein and a baby girl, Ziak, due in April of 2013.
The Ziak family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive friends today from 4 to 8 p.m.
