Hi again,
Just curious how many variations in the spelling of MOURA have been found in census records, or vital records.
This morning in on-line searches I've seen MOORE, MAURA, etc. And, when my husband's grandmother was being married in Cambridge, MA, ~1912, either she or her mother had Americanized the name to MORRIS. Her parents were listed on the record as Frank and Phoebe MORRIS. Actually they were Francisco MOURA and Philomena (ROSE) MOURA).
By the way, I forgot to summarize in my other post this morning. As far as I can tell, Mrs. "Phoebe" MOURA, had already been widowed when she arrived in Massachusetts in 1912. The family story is that her husband, "Frank" had been a Whaler and perhaps he died at sea. (Or, they had .separated. ~1910.)
So, daughter, Elsie, arrived ~1905, then mother and other 2 daughters arrived ~1912, son, Manny, had already arrived in 1908, then son, Frank, arrived in 1915. (I don't know if they all arrived in Massachusetts, first. But, the 2 sons headed to other states ~1920.)
