Carl William Motter, age 94,the co-owner of the Motter and Guth Trucking Company, with his brother-in-law, Walter Guth,
Carl William Motter, age 94,
of Marble,
peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 in Erie.pA,
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Genevieve Ann Motter (Eisenman) on April 19th 2009.
Carl was the co-owner of the Motter and Guth Trucking Company, with his brother-in-law, Walter Guth, until his retirement in 1984. He worked at Pa. Niederriter Lumber Company until the business was established. He was better known to many truck drivers by his CB handle, "Motts," his many nieces and nephews as "Uncle Carl," and his family as "Papa". Warm memories of four-wheeler rides "down Sandy," hot dog roasts, and cutting wood at camp will be forever treasured. Many friends and family members will remember stopping by "the office" to say hello and enjoy a cold "Old German", his favorite Mack truck which he called "Greenie," and the sound of the musical air horns he installed on his midnight blue 1978 Mercury Grand Marquis that played the tune "Somewhere My Love." Mark and Tammy will never forget countless good times they spent with their beloved Papa. During Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays Papa loved to build a fire in the fireplace, mix 7&7's, and play games of Euchre and 500. Waiting and watching for Papa's big car to pull in the driveway for holidays was always a big event. During the summer Papa loved splitting wood at camp, going to auctions, and taking evening car rides to "see where this road comes out at," stop for ice cream, or spot for deer. During the fall Papa enjoyed taking his Pace Arrow motorhome to Clarion for the Autumn Leaf Festival. As a child, Tammy would sit on the floor with Papa and comb and "fix" his hair with Nanny's barrettes and bobby pins for hours, giving him back scratches in between which he always loved. Mark remembers being lifted into "Greenie" and sitting shotgun in the big truck for chip runs or trips to Joe's Garage. In later years, Mark was able to return the favor and lift Papa into the Dodge pick-up truck or Buick for trips to the barber shop or Siebenberger Club. Papa enjoyed many summer trips to his brother and sister-in-law's cottage in Northeast Pa over the years. Richard and Madeline Wolfram, who he affectionately called Uncle Dick and Girley, would often invite Carl and Jenny up for dinners of Papa and Uncle Dick's favorite things like corn on the cob and Limburger cheese and onion sandwiches. We will all treasure our special memories of gatherings at the cottage and The Siebenberger Club with Papa and Nanny, and Aunt Madeline and Uncle Dick.
He was preceded in death by his parents William E. and Ida W. Karl Motter .
and a sister Twila Smith.
Carl is survived by his daughter Connie and son-in-law Dr. Ken Borland of Erie, grandson Dr. Mark Borland and grand-daughter-in-law Carrie Borland of Erie, and granddaughter Dr. Tammy Borland of Walnut Creek, California. Memorial contributions may be made to the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department. At the request of the family memorial service and burial at St. Michael Cemetery in Fryburg will be private. The Borland Funeral Home, Inc. in Leeper is in charge of arrangements.
in the Erie Times-News on December 1, 2012.

My GG Grandmother Elizabeth Rauch married Phillip Lawrence, together they had 4 children, Jacob,Belinda, Daniel, and William Allen, my Great Grandfather. Elizabeth and Phillip were divorced, and Elizabeth married Christian Motter (B: Denmark or Switzerland) 07 Apr 1850 give or take, I'm thinking that Christian was a widower, in the 1850 census there are younger chidren listed besides my Great Grandfather 8 yrs., and his half brother Aquilla 1 yr..I don't really know what goes on from there. Except Aquilla marries Sarah J. Houser, together they have 4 children: Mary E., Louisa, Orianna, Sarah V.. If you have anything more to tell , I would really appreciate it. Thanks for your time.
It's been a while since I've done any record searches. I kept coming up with alot of nothing. Elizabeth Rauch Lawrence Motter was my GG Grandmother. She divorced Phillip Lawrence and married Christian Motter. I have a few pictures of the old house of "Grandma Lawrence's" , Aquilla and Sarah Motter in "Blacherville" OH. Do you have any info about Elizabeth Rauch Motter? I guess at this point, I would appreciate anything you have to offer. Everything I have found on Rootsweb or Ancestry or Family search.org.Hope to hear from you . B.Y.

Genevieve Ann Motter age 90,daughter of Albert and Flora Eisenman.
Genevieve Ann Motter
Genevieve Ann Motter age 90 of Fryburg,
passed away in the arms of her husband of 66 years, Carl W. Motter at her daughters home in Erie. She was better known to her loving family as Nanny, her 29 nieces and nephews as Dede, and her many friends and neighbors as Jenny.
Born on April 15, 1919 and was the daughter of Albert and Flora Eisenman.
Warm memories of rides on the four-wheeler, spirited games of Euchar, and afternoons on the back porch will be forever treasured. As children we had many fun filled trips to Disney World in the Pace Arrow motor home and spent many weekends at Aunt Madelines cottage on the shores of Lake Erie. Nanny loved the holidays and made every effort to make them special for her family. She took great pride in decorating a perfect Christmas tree and coloring the perfect Easter egg. All will miss Nannys famous meatloaf, sweet potatoes, angel food cakes, and date filled Christmas cookies. She was an active member of Saint Michaels Church and Rosary Society. She was particularly proud of her house and spent countless hours maintaining a perfect home. She loved to weed, plant flowers, and get a suntan while mowing the lawn on her tractor. She was a gracious host to all friends and family who walked up the walk and through her doors. April 15th 2009 was her 90th birthday.
She is survived by her daughter Connie Borland and husband Ken of Erie, grandson Mark Borland and wife Carrie of Erie, and granddaughter Tammy of Walnut Creek, California. Nanny was a perfect grandmother in every way and will be sadly missed by her two beloved grandchildren who were the center of her world. She was the last member of the Albert and Flora Eisenman family of six; Chuck, Steve and Albert Eisenman, Madeline Wolfram and Marie Guth all preceded her in death. Friends will be received on Sunday April 19, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg. Parish vigil service will be conducted at 8:45 p.m. in the funeral home. Mass of a Christian burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday April 20, 2009 at St. Michael Church in Fryburg with Rev. David Poulson Pastor presiding. Burial will be held in the St. Michael Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St Michael Church in Fryburg.
Erie Times-News on 4/19/2009,

St Michael Church in Fryburg.
Is this your Milton? If you find out any more info, would you please share it. Thanks, Ray

Ray, your email with the above doesn't work. Your Milton born 1865 and only 5 years later my Milton Motter was marrying Adaline Price. So we will have to be checking other Motters. I wonder how many Milton Motter there have been in the era we are researching. Have you run across many?

List, do you know of other men by the name of Milton Motter who would fit the birth dates of late 1840's or 1860's?

Thanks, Rose !!!!!

Motter family of Piqua, OH and Chicago, IL

My great aunt Hattie Smith married Jermiah/Jeremiah/Jerimiah/Jerry Motter in Piqua, OH around 1887. Around 1890 they moved to Chicago, IL, along with the rest of the Smith family. They had 9 or 10 children (census records disagree with my family). Jerry died in 1917. There is a Hattie Motter who worked as a housekeeper in the 1930 census, which I assume is the same Hattie. I have death dates for some of the children, but nothing for Hattie. If anyone has information, please let me know.

Yes, it is the same family. I didn't know about Lester, but I have the others in my tree. I have several photos of the Motter family, some identified, some not. My grandmother was Alberta's mother's younger sister.

Feel free to email me at Lempacre@aol.com

Hi, just found this, thanks much. I'm still wondering however if we have the same Balser. Dates I have for Samuel are close, so it just might be his mother. How did you find the death cert.?
Myrna

Hi! I'm sorry it has taken me so long to respond to you! I happened to pick up my genealogy today and went back to this post & was shocked to see a reply to my question. Again, I am sorry!!

After looking over my notes I don't know where I got Lester from either. I have Arthur Jr., Jerry, and Madeline (my grandmother). I have Arthur Sr passing in 1957. I haven't found anything on Alberta.

I would like to share info with you. My e-mail is homebody28@juno.com.

Thank you,
Renee

My great grandmother was Alberta Motter. She married Arthur Knobloch. They lived in Chicago. Their children were Arthur Jr, Madeline, Jerry, and Lester.

I don't have much information on this side of my family. Do any of these names sound familiar?
