Russell Mortz, Phillip Walker Mortz, Indiana, Frances Everman

My father's name was Phillip Edward Walker (22 Dec 1933- 4 Jan 1971)... or so I thought. I was concerned because I could not find his birth certificate but I went full throttle to research the Walkers. Went back 18 generation on a well sourced tree. Been researching the Walkers seriously for 3 years.

Well I should have been more diligent closer to home. I finally ordered my father's SSA application and was floored to find out he was born Phillip Mortz. His father was listed as Russel Mortz.

My grandmother was Frances Lucile Everman (1914-1981) she was born in Kentucky but raised in Indiana. She married Edmund Eugene Walker in 1945 after living with him for a time.

I know nothing at all about Russell or this family. I am just starting to research. If you know anything at all about this man who would be my grandfather, please contact Debbra Walker at dancingwghosts@gmail

re: Mortz, Moritz, Mortiz, Walker, Everman

My mother has done so much research about our Mortz history. She has sooo much information if anyone has facebook she is on there http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/profile.php?id=100000691.... I know she went back into 1800's not sure about when but when John Moritz moved here from Germany in the late 1800's it was Moritz then in the early 1900's the name changed to Mortz. Putting this family tree togather has been such a puzzle to us. My mom is Valerie "Mortz" Rogers and we are from Kokomo, Indiana. My mothers father is Don Mortz. His siblings are Viola, Susan, james, and Duke.

any info on Mary Mortz or her children????
she was my Grandmother, changed her name from Bacon to Mortz after my Father Samuel Charles Bacon was born, she passed away in Kokomo Indiana around the year 1988. I remember the names Viola, Susan,, Daniel as names of my Fathers brothers and sisters, and believe some are still living in or around the Kokomo area to this day,I do not believe they all share either the Mortz OR the Bacon
surnames...fuzzy stuff to me, I learned early on in life not to bring this subject up
as it was a source of discomfort to us ALL when I would, which makes this site so interesting to me now....anything click with the MORTZES here?????
David

Hey there! Just got on here tonight and I am really amazed at all the info on the family!
I heard before that we were part Cherokee. Did the Gov swipe land from our ansestors? Figures. So "Mortz" is French? So where did the "German - Dutch" connection go that I was always told about. Was the Cherokee on Beulah's side then? Are there any more pictures of John Richard Mortz ans Beulah (Sisk) Mortz around?
This is great because the name and it's origan has always been a mystery to me.
Cherokee is cool though. Maybe we are entitled to a grant under the 1979 Indian Civil Right's Act. I am interested in the indian stuff because I have indian blood(Abenaki) on the other side of my family too.
Anyway hello to all of you. and thanks for the info.

Cuz Ken

He said he did know that his granmother had been married a few times and that his mother was a half sister to the Mortz children but didn't know or remember who was his real grandfather. He did give me the phone number of Minnie's daughter Mammie she know lives in LasVegas and I was not able to get an answer tonight will try again tomorrow. I did ask him about the paper work on the mmoney from Indiana and he said he didn't know anything about it either.

Cousins: I have very little on Minnie Or Lillie. Grandmother lost touch with them after her kids got older. All I really know is that they were Indians and that Lillie had or her son Jessie had the records of when our Indian grandfather sold his land to Indiana under false pretences.
