Hi all
This is my once a decade pitch for Mortimer/ore cousins. Sooner or later someone is bound to find the following names familiar:
From the top, my G-grandfather Percival George Mortimer was born in 1882 in Melbourne Australia and was killed in WW1 in 1914.
His father was George Stephen Mortimore, b 1830 in Exeter, Devon, who emigrated to Australia about 1865 and married Isabel Anderson in Sydney in 1877. Their other children were Lilian Isabel (b 1880), Reginald James (b 1883), Rubina Evelyn (b 1885), Isabel Sarah (known as Sadie, b 1889). George Stephen Mortimore was a brushmaker and died in Melbourne in 1897.
His father was John Mortimore, born 1800 in Exeter, and married Dorothy Wall in 1823. Their other children were Thomas Webb (b 1823), John (b 1826), William Henry (b 1834), Edward (b 1838) and Elizabeth Dorothy (b 1840). John's wife Dorothy died in 1843, and he remarried in 1845 to Melony Ellard, with whom he had another son Charles (born 1845). John was a brushmaker, and probably had a shop on Paul Street in Exeter in the mid-nineteenth century. He died in Exeter in 1871.
His father was William Mortimore, born 1777 in Zeal Monachorum, Devon, who married Elizabeth Webb in Exeter in 1800. Their other children were William (b 1803) and Thomas (b 1807). William was a servant and died in Exeter in 1819.
His father was another William Mortimore, born about 1750 somewhere in Devon as yet unknown. He married Frances Crispin in Zeal Monachorum in 1774. Their other surviving children were John (1775-1858), Mary (b 1783), Robert (1785-1866), Betty (b 1788) and William known as Thomas (b 1795). William Senior died in North Tawton in 1818.
Some of these siblings and their descendants moved to Sidmouth, Colebrooke and Plymouth, as well as further afield. Others I haven't traced, so if anything here looks like it matches something from your tree, get in touch!
Kind regards
Alix Mortimer
