Hi Susan,
My Anny married in Haralson County, GA, and they later lived in Paulding County, GA. I have yet to find a census record in Georgia listing her with husband Edward Statham. Perhaps they moved from Georgia for a period of time. The decendents of Edward and Anny lived in Albertville, AL, but I don't when they first settled there. Appeared to be movement back and forth between GA and AL until 1940's. I have not heard that any family members moved to Arkansas, but I won't rule that out.
Interesting point you made about the spellings. I think that is significant and probably rules out Anny Statham as being a member of that family, although she still could be related; maybe first or second cousin.
I think I am going to have to renew my efforts to locate Edward and Anny in 1880 census. This should list some of their children, and I believe list state of birth of themselves and their parents. This might help with connection to her parents and family. Just need the time!
Also, noticed some postings for Morris' as being Native Americans. At this point, I have no indication that Anny was Native American, but maybe this is worth a look into. I don't know how surnames were aquired, but perhaps this is an indication of why I cannot find her in earlier census records with family. Pehaps she was not born a "Morris". Just a guess.
Will add to postings when (and if) I get more info. Keep in contact if you would like (
