Jerry A. Montenegro, age 72, of North Canton, Ohio, passed away Tuesday evening after a brief illness.

Born in Bronx. N.Y., he had been a North Canton resident since 1969. A Navy veteran, he was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, where he served in various leadership capacities. Retired from G.E. Capital Corporation after 39 years of service, he enjoyed a consultative relationship for the past 15 years with Harry Mestel, a local businessman. Jerry was an active member and past president of the Unique Club of Stark County, Stark Community Foundation's Developement Committee, former member of the Board of Trustees of the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce and currently serving on its Downtown Canton Landbank Corporation, former member of the Board of Trustees for the United Way of Central Stark County.

Preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Concetta ( Quattrone ) Montenegro, and son Mark Montenegro.

Survived by his wife of 20 years, Roberta ( Schwartz ) Montenegro ; children and spouses, Anthone and Kim Montenegro, Gene Montenegro , Lisa Triola, all of Brunswick, Georgia , Elisa Varn of Uniontown, Ohio , Joshua and Erin Weber of Cincinnati, Ohio ; grandchildren, Nicholas , Rachel , Anthony Jr. , Jessica Montenegro , Frances Triola , Michael and Maclaine Varn ; sisters and brother-in-law, Grace and Frank Carchietta of Howell, N.J. and Lena Aurichio of the Bronx, N.Y.

Friends will be recieved Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 in the Rossi Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 a.m. in Congregational United Church of Christ, with Pastor John States officiating. As were his wishes, Jerry will be cremated. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jerry's name to the Arc of Stark County, Inc. or Congregational United Church of Christ.
