Harry's father's name was William Thomas. And his mother's last name was Edmonston, thinking her first name was Sarah, but Sarah was a very common nickname back then. Harry's children was Mary Magdalene Mockbee Proctor and Harry E., JR. Mary had two children, Mary Maude Proctor Matson and Frances Elizabeth Proctor Meyers. Harry, Jr., had one son named William Lee Mockbee (with "Billy", having 3 children, boy being Michael and two daughters names unknown). Mary Maude has four adopted children and Frances had one son, Theodore James. We spell Tasewell with a "z". Any help?

Charlotte Arnold(1857-1935) They are both buried in the Church Cemetery on the grounds of the Short Creek Baptist
Church, just NW of Falmouth KY. I descend from their daughter, Mary "Mollie" who married Grover Cleveland Link/
Lingenfelter... Grover & Mollie moved to Dayton, Ohio...
Their son, Chester Cleveland Link was my maternal Grandfather... If anyone could lend me some help in running

Shirley it's so nice to be in touch with you. Do you remember my phoning you in Mo.? Really this is all I know abt. the Mockbee side of my family.My brother favored the photo of Alonzo.I meant to say Alonzo had a child named Olive md. an Oma.I always thought my Grandma had a unusual name.I just think since Alonzo was in Harrison Co.also for a time that there must be a family connection. Also my Aunt could not have made up a name like Ellen Gruen/Bruen as our ancestor she told me this name without any thought or hesitation,even though she could not remember Henson name,but I have trouble with that one myself.As far as I know my Grandma was not in touch with her Mockbee relatives except her immediate family as they lived up north she moved to Ms. with her husband raised a large family.I will check her trunk to see if any letters sometime this yr. I suspect that William Mockbee's father was Tillman Mockbee (a neighbor in the 1860 St. Charles Co. census of Portages Des Sioux) by his first wife Cynthia Johnston.

I am searching for information on the Mockbee family. The information that I have is that Baxter W. (?Willis) Mockbee, b. abt. 1865, married Emma Southerland (?sp). Two known children, William B. (?Baxter) b. 1901, and Jack, b. 1904.

Parents of Emma Southerland were James Southerland and Martha Compton.

Any help or suggestions as to where I might find further information would be appreciated. I am a beginner in searching my ancestors, so ANY suggestions are welcome.

I have hopes in finding the family of Lula M. Brown MOCKBEE from the Cincinnati area. She was born June 4, 1910 and I was told that she died around 1968 or so. I have no idea who her husband was, her parents were Charles BROWN from Dearborn County, Indiana maybe around Manchester or Union Ridge. Her mother was Sarah Ella HUMMEL. Her sister was Mary Fern Brown YAZELL and two brothers, Floyd who lived around Cincinnati and Irving who lived in Aurora, Indiana. Lula had children, I think I remember meeting a son. I have done most of the HUMMEL genealogy and looking for tid bits to finish it up. I am also willing to share what I have with this family.

James, I searched the Social Security Death Index (SSDI) at Rootsweb - http://ssdi.rootsweb.com/ - and found:

LULA M MOCKBEE, 4 Jun 1910-20 Apr 2000. Last residence: Akron, Summit Co., OH 44333. SSN: 295-30-2007, issued Ohio.

I suggest you request (or perhaps search for on the internet) Lula's obituary, which should tell you the name of her husband, and perhaps their marriage date and place.

A search for all the MOCKBEEs in the SSDI with a last residence of Ohio yields only 17 matches, many of whom are possible husbands for Lula. The obituary or other death record may pin him down for sure. You might leave a Post-Em on Lula's SSDI record, also.

Wm Mockbee is my gggrandfather. i am related through his daughter Mary Francis. I cannot find anyone in this family after the 1860 Missouri census. My ggrandmother shows up getting married in 1876 in Springfield, Illinois. I find one son James in the 1870 census, but no one else anywhere. Its as if the dropped off the face of the earth.

I also agree that Tilman is Wm's father, but no real proof can I find.

Bernie, The marriage license did not have any parent names listed. I have copies of land records showing Jacob and Polly Kilander of Brown Co. Ohio selling land to John W. Mockbee in 1835 and John W. Mockbee and Hester selling land to Solomon Rich and it bordered on Kylander property. Jacob Mockbee son of John W. and Hester (Ester) is my husbands line. There were several children it seems. I have a book on the Mockbee family written by Shirley Mockabee Ames. We have never connected but are pretty sure the family is related. Her Mockbees are from Maryland and came to Ohio and KY. Tom, My husband's mother was a Mockbee. Her family came to IL from KY. Her father was Jesse Mockbee, born in Oct 2, 1867 in Harrison Co. KY and his father Jacob Mockbee born in Brown Co.Ohio 1834. I have a copy of the marriage license of Attison Stinnet and Molly Mockbee because I was trying to find any Mockbee that might be part of the family. Unfortunately I never found where she fit in. I have a copy of the book "The Mockbee Family Roots in Maryland, Kentucky, and Ohio and Descendants by Shirley June Mockaee Ames 1988. Tom, I was looking through the book I mentioned. There is a miscellaneous section. In 1860 St. Charles Co. MO Federal Census, Portage Des Sious township, 17 July, page 156 is listed Tilmon Mockbee, age 60 farmer, born KY. John W. Age 16, born KY and Cynthia age 13, born KY. Living next door to Tilmon is William Mockbee: Lucy age 32 born KY, Sara, age 11 born MO, James W. Age 9 born MO., Frances Age 7 born MO. Margaret, age 4, born MO, Frederick age 2 born MO. The Frances listed could be your ggrandmother. I am writing to U of IL at Springfield, IL for another copy of Attison and Molly's marriage license and ask them to send any family information. Some of the marriage license I have from IL have names of parents etc. The one of Attison and Molly does not. Will let you know if I find anything. On the IL Gen Web site there is an IL Marriage Index which is helpful. Carol

Do you know the correct name of Henson's wife - Elen Bruen(?) and do you know anything about their parents?

My grandmother Martha Ann Mockbee was the daughter of Rachel Fields and Louis Mockbee. She was married to Newell Allender and had one child (Othel) with Allender. Later she had three children out of wedlock with Wiley Ellis ( a 2nd or 3rd cousin). The children (Mabel, Marjorie and Wiley Eugene) were given the name Ellis sometime around 1915-1917 or so. Martha's grandmother - Sarah Ellis was the brother of Wiley's father - James R. Ellis.

I found an interesting site that may be of interest to those researching. Covington is now in Kenton County. However, this site lets you see what the counties were for the year you are looking at. For example Campbell county was divided in 1796 to Create Bracken County.Pendleton was created from Bracken County in 1797 etc. There is also an option to look at the county lines when each census was taken Check Out : http://www.segenealogy.com/kentucky/ky_county.htm:

--Covington isn't in Bracken County but maybe they moved from Bracken County.

Information in the Barton Papers states that Henson Mockbee left Brown Co, Ohio and settled first in Bracken County. Do you have any informaiton about Henson Mockbee. Think he was in the Revolutionary War.
